Ky Son calls for help to rescue its specialty ginger.
(Baonghean.vn) - This year, despite a sharp drop in price, the specialty ginger of Ky Son (Nghe An) is not selling well. Therefore, the District Farmers' Association is calling for a rescue effort to help farmers sell their ginger in a timely manner.

Ky Son GingerThe ginger harvest season began in late 2021. Unlike the previous year, when the purchase price for ginger from farmers reached over 20,000 VND/kg, this year it has dropped sharply to less than 6,000 VND/kg. Even worse, despite the very low price, it's still difficult to sell, resulting in an unsold stock of over 5,000 tons.
According to Mr. Phan Van Manh, Chairman of the Ky Son District Farmers' Association, Ky Son's ginger production this season is approximately 5,400 tons. However, only a few hundred tons have been sold so far, leaving over 5,000 tons unsold at purchasing centers and among the local population. Ginger is a significant source of income for the ethnic minority communities in the highlands of Ky Son annually, but the low price and lack of sales have negatively impacted their livelihoods.
Therefore, the current solution for farmers to sell their ginger is to call for a rescue effort. "In recent days, the District Farmers' Association has surveyed the actual situation and found that there is a huge surplus of ginger, so the Farmers' Association is stepping in.rescue"We're connecting with local farmers' associations to help out. Accordingly, whichever level of farmers' association is interested in assisting will have a supplier deliver the ginger directly to them. However, the amount of ginger consumed in recent days has not been much, and we are currently continuing to call for help," Mr. Phan Van Manh shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Luan, Director of the Huong Son Agricultural and Handicraft Service Cooperative, the main ginger purchasing and selling unit in Ky Son district, the reason for the sharp drop in ginger prices and difficulty in selling this year is due to the impact of Covid-19. Fewer traders have come to the area, transportation costs have increased, and exports are difficult. Meanwhile, ginger from other localities with attractive packaging is widely available on the market, making it difficult to compete.
