Ky Son installs additional flood drainage culverts at Huoi Com stream.

(Baonghean.vn) - Following Baonghean.vn's report on the need for drainage solutions and the construction of a bridge over the Huoi Com stream, Ky Son district has directed relevant authorities to install additional pipelines to improve drainage capacity at this bottleneck.

The Huoi Com stream is the weakest point on the Muong Xen - Tay Son road. During the historic flood of October 2022, the drainage culvert at this stream was swept away by the water, completely cutting off the road. Ky Son district has rebuilt a temporary drainage culvert here; however, in reality, after the heavy rains in early July, the drainage capacity of the culvert was insufficient, causing water to overflow onto the road surface through Son Ha and Hoa Son villages, Ta Ca commune, and Muong Xen town, similar to last year's flood.

After Nghe An Newspaper reported on this inadequacy in the article:"The people in the flood-affected areas of Ky Son urgently need a bridge built across the Huoi Com and Ta Ca streams."Ky Son district immediately implemented additional solutions to improve this weak point.

Accordingly, on the morning of July 16th, the district directed the District Project Management Board to install an additional 12 meters of D1000 culvert at Huoi Com stream, running parallel to the old culvert, increasing drainage capacity and ensuring that during heavy rain or floods, water will flow through the culvert into the stream, preventing it from overflowing onto the road surface as it has in the past.

This is a necessary measure, especially given the heavy rains in Ky Son district in recent days, while the Muong Xen - Tay Son road is still deteriorating and eroding. Many households along the road live near landslide-prone areas in temporary houses, which are very dangerous if water overflows.

However, the leaders of Ky Son district stated that this is only a temporary solution, as extreme weather conditions are still unpredictable, and large floods that could wash away these culverts are entirely possible during the rainy season. Therefore, the district has sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments regarding the repair and upgrading of the Muong Xen - Tay Son road after the recent flood, including a request to build a bridge over the Huoi Com stream. However, due to a lack of funding, the project has not been implemented, and temporary culverts have had to be installed to temporarily drain the water.

Residents in the flood-affected areas of Son Ha, Hoa Son, Ta Ca commune, and Muong Xen town are still hoping for a bridge across the Huoi Com stream to ensure their safety during the rainy season, especially since there is no new resettlement site for the displaced people yet.

The Muong Xen - Tay Son road was the most severely affected by landslides during the historic floods in October 2022. The road is approximately 12km long. It starts at Block 1, Muong Xen town (intersecting with National Highway 7), passes through Son Ha and Hoa Son villages (Ta Ca commune); and ends at Huoi Giang 3 village, Tay Son commune.

This is the main route connecting Muong Xen town to Tay Son commune. In the future, after the Na Ngoi - Tay Son inter-commune road is completed (currently under construction), it will form a continuous connecting route from Muong Xen town to the communes of Ta Ca, Tay Son, Na Ngoi, Nam Can, Muong Ai, and Muong Tip, serving the transportation needs of the people and especially developing eco-tourism combined with high-tech agriculture for Ky Son district.
