We went to Minh Chau village (Tri Le commune - Que Phong) to meet old lady Vu Y Chia. Asking about her family, everyone in Tri Le commune knows her because for decades she has owned the most "unique" hair in this remote border area.

In the small house, Mr. Vu Y Chia was sitting by the fire warming himself. Since he could not speak Kinh, we had to ask his son, Mr. Tho Ba Sinh, who is currently working at a school in the commune to translate. He said: He does not know exactly what year he was born, according to his papers it was 1925, and he only remembers that he has gone through more than 90 rice seasons.

When he was 60 years old, he did not understand why, while his peers' hair kept falling out so much, his hair seemed to grow longer. Strangely, the strands of hair were tangled together like strings. Thinking that this was a good omen, Vu Y Chia left it like that, cut off the short strands around it, and only nurtured the long strands that had tangled together. Since then, after 32 years, his hair has grown nearly 6 meters long.

Although he is over 90, according to his son, Mr. Y Chia still goes to work on the farm as usual. When working hard, he puts his hair in a large bag and carries it on his back. “He has to carry it like that, there is no other way. Sometimes it is inconvenient because his hair is like a basket on his back” – said Mr. Tho Ba Sinh.

Going to work with long hair is hard enough, but washing it is even harder. She does everything herself, without bothering anyone. According to her, she only washes her hair from the bag on her back when the sun is strong. She usually washes it around 8am, but then she has to sit in the sun until 12pm for her hair to dry completely.

Vu Y Chia’s hair is the pride of his family and village. Tho Ba Sinh said that when his hair started to grow long, no one dared to discuss cutting it. Because according to everyone, this is his blessing for his children and grandchildren.

Until now, even though he is over 90 years old, his hair is still growing and shows no signs of stopping./.
