Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting his niece.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 14th, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case of Loc Van Tu (born in 1993), residing in Thung Khang village, Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district, on the charge of child rape.

According to the indictment, on the evening of July 16, 2016, Tu and his niece, LTH (born in 2006), went to a stream near their house to build a dam to block the water flow for a power turbine. After completing the dam, taking advantage of the child's naivety, Tu committed a heinous act against the victim and warned her not to tell anyone.

The child told her mother about it. On July 19th, the Quy Chau District Police executed an emergency arrest warrant for Loc Van Tu. At the time of the assault, LTH was just over 10 years and 5 months old.

At the trial, Loc Van Tu admitted his crime and expressed remorse. After the incident, Tu compensated the victim with 22 million VND. The victim's legal representative did not request further compensation from Tu and asked the court to consider mitigating circumstances for the defendant.

After considering all aspects of the case, including aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced Loc Van Tu to 10 years in prison.
