Clarifying 3 major cases of deforestation in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn)- In 2017, Nghe An Police coordinated with relevant sectors to investigate and clarify 3 outstanding cases related to the field of forest exploitation and protection.

1 -In early 2017, Ky Son District Police received a report from the people stating that: In the L10 landmark protection forest area in Na Ngoi commune, Ky Son district and sub-areas 499, 500A, 500C in the Nam Can commune protection forest, Ky Son district, there was illegal logging.

Through on-site examination, it was determined that: The total amount of illegally exploited timber in sub-area 490 (Na Ngoi commune) was 19 trees, including 10 Po mu trees with a volume of 23.12 m3, 09 Sa mu trees with a volume of 55.7 m3.

The total number of illegally exploited trees in sub-areas 499, 500A, 500C of Nam Can commune's protective forest is 36 Sa mu trees with a volume of 127 m3 (unsawn whole wood), 37 sawn timber panels with a volume of 4.623 m3.

After actively implementing investigation measures, Ky Son District Police investigated, clarified, and prosecuted 04 cases, 12 defendants for the crime of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection".

At the same time, the investigation was expanded, arrest and prosecution of 01 defendant, the Head of Nam Can Forest Management and Protection Station, under the Ky Son District Forest Protection Management Board, was carried out for the crime of "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences".

2-On July 5, 2017, Que Phong District Police received a report from Que Phong District Forest Protection Department with the following content: In April 2017, through forest patrol and control work, Que Phong District Forest Protection Department discovered that in the forest area of ​​sub-regions 83 and 88, Na Bon village, Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, there were 03 production forest areas (mixed forests of bamboo and miscellaneous wood) with an area of ​​226,510 m2 that were cut down.

After synchronously implementing investigation measures, Que Phong District Police quickly investigated, clarified, and prosecuted 02 cases, 08 defendants for the crime of "Forest Destruction".

3 - From July 11, 2017, Quy Chau District Police investigated, clarified, and prosecuted 03 cases, 03 defendants for the act of "Property destruction" in the upstream protection forest area of ​​Co Ba Forestry Farm, belonging to Song Hieu Agricultural Forestry One Member Co., Ltd.

The investigation process clarified that the subjects had cut down 17,957 square meters of protective forest for the purpose of illegally planting acacia, causing property damage worth 68.1 million VND.

In addition, also in 2017, the authorities discovered 893 violations of regulations on forest exploitation, protection, development, and illegal transportation, storage, and trading of forest products.
