(Baonghean) - Following the success of the first cantaloupe farming model, Thanh Chuong district is researching options for expansion and providing financial support to farmers for building greenhouses.

In the last days of May, farmers and agricultural managers in Thanh Chuong district eagerly awaited the first harvest of cantaloupe from the district's first greenhouse.

The person who implemented this model is Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quyet from Thanh Tien commune. Mr. Quyet shared: On an area of 2,500 m².2We set up three greenhouses to grow 9,000 cantaloupe plants. After exactly 75 days, the first crop of melons was ready for harvest. The first greenhouse yielded over 3 tons of fruit, and if we harvest everything, we will get over 10 tons. With an average selling price of 40,000 VND/kg, selling everything would bring in over 300 million VND.

Achieving this high-quality product requires a long process of research and adherence to technical steps. The cantaloupe from Thanh Chuong is currently popular with customers, and traders are even buying it directly from the fields.

Cantaloupe is a type of melon with a net-like rind and yellow flesh, widely trusted for its delicious taste and high nutritional value. This variety requires quite advanced cultivation techniques, so it is currently grown and managed according to VietGAP and Gapglobal standards, ensuring complete safety for consumption.

According to Mr. Hoang Bang, the seed supplier and product buyer, although the company had a contract to purchase the product, because this was the first crop and the first time this type of melon was grown in the area, there were many buyers. Temporarily, the company did not have enough melons to buy, but we are very pleased with this result. This is a positive sign that will reassure farmers and encourage them to continue production.

Along with this model in Thanh Tien commune, three other greenhouses in Thanh Lien, Thanh Linh, and Thanh Duong communes in Thanh Chuong district are also being well-cared for and awaiting harvest. These results have become a vivid example for replication on a larger scale, not only in each commune but throughout the district.

Mr. Le Dinh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, said: The district is directing relevant departments to study and evaluate the effectiveness, and at the same time, research to issue mechanisms and policies to support people in building greenhouses.
