In episode 5 of the series "The Dividing Line," investigators made significant progress in dismantling a large-scale gambling ring. Recovered data revealed that hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dong had been smuggled abroad via cryptocurrency. Notably, transaction history showed many high-stakes gamblers, including indications of involvement with officials and civil servants within the Viet Dong provincial government system.
After his arrest, Tran Truong finally confessed to the operation of the gambling ring. The betting system was sourced from an international bookmaker with servers located abroad. Players participated through credit and collateral schemes, and were given accounts to transact. Winnings and losses were transferred through various bank accounts before being converted into cryptocurrency and legitimized as investments in Vien Vinh company.
The mastermind is caught, and this is the final move.
Nguyen Van Vien has been identified as the mastermind and main operator of the gambling ring, directly managing the VIP clients. However, the identities of these VIP clients remain unknown. Meanwhile, Vien is planning to flee but is facing difficulties because his account has been frozen.
In a desperate situation, Vien approached Vinh, an inspector at the Department of Construction and also a VIP client in his network. Vien used evidence of Vinh's gambling involvement to blackmail him, demanding 200 million dong to carry out his escape plan. The situation became tense when Vinh, also a gambler, didn't have the cash readily available.
Undercurrents in politics and personal anxieties
Besides the storyline of the case, the conflicts within the political arena of Viet Dong province gradually become apparent. During a meeting, Khac, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, reports on existing problems and proposes solutions for a project that Chairman Thuy is interested in. However, the unfocused work attitude of Vinh, Khac's subordinate, displeases Chairman Thuy.
After the meeting, Triển, the Chief of Staff of the Provincial Committee, had a private conversation with Khắc about the upcoming personnel arrangements. Triển expressed his desire to find a less demanding position to have more time for his family, while also encouraging Khắc that he had many opportunities this time around.
As for Thu, the female investigator, she faces cracks in her family life. Her husband is annoyed that she's too busy with work, even missing their wedding anniversary. His comments leave Thu pondering the balance between career and family.
