The Line, Episode 8: The Power Struggle and the Spectacular Escape

In episode 8 of the series "The Dividing Line," the struggle for the position of Director of the Finance Department of Viet Dong province intensifies when Mr. Sach, with the power entrusted to him by Secretary Son, uses various methods to support his trusted subordinate, Trinh Van Khac.

The Standing Committee meeting announced a list of four candidates for the position of Director of the Department of Finance, including: Tran Anh Huy, Le Chinh, Pham Ngoc Trien, and Trinh Van Khac. Mr. Sach set high standards for this position, emphasizing the ability to manage public investment, the capacity to attract resources, and political acumen, thereby implicitly showing support for Khac.

To pave the way for Khac, Mr. Sach had a private meeting with Trien, another candidate on the list. He frankly expressed his wish for Trien to remain on the Committee and to support Khac. Not stopping there, Mr. Sach also sent an anonymous complaint to the Prosecutor's Office and the police, accusing Le Chinh of wrongdoing in the Dong Phong project. This action aroused suspicion in Thu, an investigating officer, of involvement in the upcoming personnel appointments.

In another development, Mr. Than, Mr. Sach's former boss, approached him to secure a position in the Department of Finance for his son, but Mr. Sach refused, citing that the list of candidates had already been finalized.

Alongside the political battle, the investigation into the multi-billion dollar gambling ring is still being conducted urgently. The Prosecutor's Office, under Thu's direction, is working hard to trace the flow of money and identify the key suspects, with the most important goal being the arrest of Vien.

Thanks to Thieu's help, Vien found safe refuge and was provided with financial support. However, at the crucial moment, just before boarding the escape train, Vien unexpectedly changed his plan. He had a driver go in his place and narrowly escaped the police raid. Authorities subsequently tightened border controls to apprehend him.

Anxiety and risky decisions

For his part, Khac couldn't hide his anxiety at Le Chinh's unexpected appearance on the list of candidates. Trien reassured Khac, saying that Chinh's personality would displease many in the Standing Committee. Despite having Mr. Sach's support, Khac made a risky decision by trying to help Vinh "fix the case," disregarding Trien's advice.
