With the dedication of medical professionals and a heart for the community, the medical staff of Nghe An Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital have provided practical support through social welfare activities, especially the "Living to Love" program. Each activity not only motivates patients during their treatment but also extends a helping hand to many disadvantaged people in the province.

Following a fall that caused pelvic injuries, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thuy (born in 1944), residing in Trung Yen Hamlet, Vinh Phu Ward, was hospitalized at the Lower Extremity Department of the Nghe An Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital. During her hospital stay, the difficulty in walking made daily life inconvenient for this woman over 80 years old. Then, she and many other patients at the hospital received free haircuts and hair washes from the doctors and nurses.
"Being cared for and looked after by the doctors and nurses like that warmed my heart. These small acts of kindness are a source of encouragement for us during these tiring days," shared Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thuy.

Sharing about this meaningful activity, Dr. Nguyen Viet Hoang - Secretary of the Youth Union and Head of the General Planning Department of the hospital - said that for patients requiring long-term treatment, self-care is not always convenient. Understanding this, since 2019, Nghe An Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital has maintained a program of free haircuts and hair washing once a month, on the last Tuesday afternoon of the month.
The program is supported by hair salons and volunteers, helping to alleviate inconvenience for patients during their treatment. In addition, the hospital organizes many practical support activities such as providing free meals and porridge, cash assistance, and partial treatment cost support for patients in difficult circumstances.

This spirit of sharing is also being spread by the collective of medical staff to those in difficult circumstances in the community. For example, in August of this year, in response to the "Godmother" program, the Hospital's Trade Union sponsored and supported Nguyen Hai Dang (born in 2018), residing in Truong Vinh ward.
In 2024, Dang's father unfortunately passed away in an accident. Since then, his mother has single-handedly shouldered the responsibility of raising and educating her two children, while also caring for her elderly and frail parents-in-law. Life, already difficult, became even more challenging as the mother had to manage everything in the family. The support and encouragement from the Hospital's Trade Union have helped Dang and his mother to persevere in their lives.

Another case that the hospital is focusing on and supporting is that of Luong Kham Phon (born in 2009), whose family is classified as a poor household in Ngoc Lam commune, formerly Thanh Chuong district. Orphaned of both parents, Phon and his sister once lacked stable housing and lived a nomadic life; his younger sister had to drop out of school and work part-time in Hanoi.
Sharing in their hardships, the Nghe An Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital, in coordination with BIDV Bank, Nghe An Branch, supported the construction of a solidarity house for the Phon brothers, contributing to the policy of providing housing support for the poor and those in difficult circumstances. After a period of construction, the house was completed and handed over on September 13, 2024.
Along with Phon, many other disadvantaged individuals have also received support from the hospital and partner organizations, providing them with additional strength to stabilize their lives and move forward. Through these humane actions, the compassionate spirit of the medical staff is not only demonstrated in caring for patients but is also extended through practical sharing with the community.

Since 2023, Nghe An Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital has been developing a series of charitable programs called""Living to Love" aims to bring healthcare and practical support closer to people in disadvantaged areas. Through its implementation, in addition to free medical examinations, treatment, and medication, the program also focuses on students, needy families, and underprivileged healthcare facilities in remote areas.
In particular, over the past two years, these trips have continued to bring many gifts and practical support resources to the people. For example, in January 2025, in Huoi Poc village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district (formerly), the "Living to Love" program provided free medical examinations and medicine to 100 children and 150 adults. At the same time, they distributed 238 gifts to students, 40 gifts to disadvantaged families, and provided facilities and supplies for the local primary and kindergarten schools.

By February 2026, the program continued in Pha Danh commune, formerly Ky Son district (now Nam Can commune), providing free medical examinations and medication to nearly 200 people, and distributing 357 Tet (Lunar New Year) gifts to disadvantaged households. The team also donated a laptop and 6 gifts to the Pha Danh Health Station. The total resources allocated to these activities amounted to hundreds of millions of VND, reflecting the care and sharing of the medical team with the people in this disadvantaged area.
Before "Living to Love" became a regularly organized program, the trips to the highlands left many unforgettable memories in the hearts of the doctors and nurses there. I remember, in January 2019, just before the Lunar New Year, the hospital's volunteer team traveled a long distance to the people in the remote Muong Long area, bringing medicine, gifts, and a desire to share. To reach the location, the team had to travel about 20 km, including nearly 12 km on foot through the forest, navigating treacherous paths.

Around 11 a.m., upon arrival, the team members quickly got to work, examining and treating patients while also distributing gifts to over 100 local residents. Lunch was postponed, and the doctors and nurses diligently carried out their activities until late afternoon.
In return for that dedication, the local people offered heartfelt handshakes and helped the members of the volunteer team return to the center safely. These simple acts of kindness warmed the hearts of the medical professionals and became unforgettable memories on their journey to these disadvantaged areas.

In 2022, a charitable trip to Huu Khuong commune, formerly Tuong Duong district, left many memorable moments when doctors and nurses discovered many elderly people suffering from spinal and joint diseases, and some children with deformities requiring special care. Therefore, in addition to examining and dispensing medicine to the people, the team also provided medicine to the local health station, hoping that this care would be maintained long-term even after the team returned.
To carry out these meaningful programs, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Thu, Deputy Director of the Nghe An Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital, along with the hospital's leadership, have dedicated much effort to building and maintaining charitable activities. She believes that community health care is not just about treating patients who seek treatment at the hospital, but also about bringing that care to remote areas where people have limited access to medical services.

Accompanying the leadership in realizing this vision are over 100 members of the hospital's youth union. They also form the core force in social welfare activities. Not only do they participate in trips to remote areas, but they also coordinate with units such as the Provincial Police, the Tax Department, and the Provincial Women's Union to implement many community health care activities.
Thus, medical ethics is not only demonstrated through professional expertise and dedication to patients, but is also nurtured by a sense of responsibility and sharing with the community and society.
