Spreading the meaning of World Population Day
(Baonghean.vn) - Promoting the power of gender equality is the theme of World Population Day 2023 (July 11). This is also an opportunity for the population sector to look back at the achievements, overcome difficulties and challenges to achieve the goal of improving population quality.
Enhancing the role of women
The family of Ms. Tran Thi Nga in Tang Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) is one of 10 families selected by Yen Thanh district to be honored as a family that has implemented the population policy well. She and her husband are both farmers. Previously, due to difficult family circumstances, when they first got married, the couple decided to have only a few children to spend time developing the economy and taking care of their children.
Later, having both boys and girls, the couple decided to stop at 2 children to have the conditions to raise their children well. Currently, her first child has finished school and is working, the second child is studying at university in Pedagogy. Thanks to their hard work, the family has gradually overcome difficulties, and the economic development model of Ms. Nga's family has also been chosen as a new rural model of the commune.

In Tang Thanh commune, when the birth rate of the third child or more is still over 30%, there are not many families that implement the population policy well like the family of Ms. Tran Thi Nga. Currently, Ms. Nga is also a women's cadre of the hamlet, so during the campaign, from her own family's situation, she often shares her experiences and receives the sympathy and support of many women.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy - a population officer of the commune said: Currently, population work in the area is facing many difficulties, because many families, especially those with economic resources, want to have more children. To improve propaganda work, we innovate the form of mobilization. In addition to concentrated propaganda, to each family, we take real people, real events, families with few children, families with only one child but still stop at 2 children to take care of economic development, raise successful children to replicate the models.
Across Yen Thanh district, among the 10 families that were recently honored by the district during the World Population Day celebration, each family has a different situation. However, the common point of the families is that they raise their children well, in harmony, and happily, many families are four generations living together as exemplary models.

Previously, Yen Thanh was one of the leading districts in effectively implementing plans to improve population quality, such as: Plan No. 1544/KH-UBND dated September 7, 2020 of the District People's Committee on implementing the Vietnam Population Strategy, period 2020 - 2025 with a view to 2030; Plan to implement the Project "Strengthening solutions to stabilize birth rates and improve population quality in Yen Thanh district".
However, due to its specific characteristics, despite many priorities, population work in the area still faces difficulties, especially in reducing the rate of third or more children.
In the district, the birth rate and natural population growth rate have decreased but are not stable, the birth rate of the third child or more is showing signs of increasing sharply again, especially some cadres, party members, civil servants and public employees have lacked exemplary and pioneering role in implementing population policy. In our opinion, there are many reasons, but the most difficult is still due to old customs and practices, many families still have the idea of having a son to continue the family line, wanting to have a backup child.
Faced with this reality, in the coming time, Yen Thanh district will continue to promote the role of the leader, strengthen the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels on population and development work. At the same time, raise awareness and promote the responsibility of authorities at all levels, organizations, each family, and the whole society on the meaning and importance of protecting and implementing the rights to health care for women and girls; promote gender equality and enhance the position of women and girls, gradually eliminating the ideology of male superiority and female inferiority.
Mr. Hoang Danh Truyen - Vice Chairman of Yen Thanh District People's Committee
Last June, for the first time, women from Chieu Luu, Nam Can, and Huu Lap communes (Ky Son) participated in a meaningful playground, the "Women with Population and Development" Contest. With the theme "Connecting Love - Full of Happiness", the contest was organized with many contents, including greetings, learning knowledge, and showing talents.
This is a meaningful playground, helping ethnic minority women learn about population policies. Thereby, contributing to raising the understanding of women's union members and people about the policies and laws of the Party and State on population work in the new situation; the role, responsibility, and contribution of women in all aspects of life; knowledge and skills in reproductive health care in different periods and ages... thereby improving the quality of life.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Quang - Head of the Communication - Population Department, Provincial Department of Population - Family Planning added: Women play an important role in implementing population policy and are a large force in society. Therefore, we want to create many playgrounds for women to express themselves and affirm the position of women in building happy families, towards gender equality.
Harnessing the power of gender equality
“Harnessing the power of gender equality, raising the voices of women and girls to unleash the limitless potential of our world” is the theme ofWorld Population Day2023. This is a very topical topic, reflecting a major issue of the global community. In Nghe An, the implementation of gender equality and the promotion of the value of women and girls has also received attention and achieved many important results.

Specifically, in the political field, the proportion of women participating in Party committees at all levels in all congress terms has increased. In the economic, labor and employment fields, on average, each year, jobs are created for 31 - 33 thousand workers, of which the proportion of women is 38.38%.
In the fields of health, education and training, the literacy rate of women aged 15-60 is equal to that of men in the whole province at 91.99%. By the end of 2021, the rate of newly recruited female students in the vocational education system reached 30.61%; the rate of female masters by 2020 reached 43.8%; the rate of pregnant women with access to care and prevention services for HIV transmission from mother to child was 33.8%; the rate of pregnant women with 3 full check-ups/3 pregnancies reached 85.9%.

With the achieved results, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tan - Head of the Provincial Department of Population and Family Planning said:
World Population Day 2023 with the theme “Promoting the power of gender equality” is an opportunity for us to look back at the gender equality work of our province. However, it is also necessary to see that, besides the achieved results, there are still gender gaps, especially in remote areas, in remote areas. Compared to men, women are still at certain disadvantages.
On World Population Day 2023, we highlight the need to promote gender equality to enable the dreams of 8 billion people to be fulfilled. This process must start with listening to the voices of women, girls and the disadvantaged, and developing laws and policies that can help them exercise their rights and make the right decisions.
To celebrate World Population Day 2023, Nghe An Population Department simultaneously implemented many activities and localities organized propaganda, seminars, and implemented various types of information provision, reproductive health care services, family planning, and improving population quality for people in remote, isolated, coastal and sea areas...

The main purpose is to raise awareness and responsibility of Party committees at all levels, authorities, departments, branches, organizations and the whole society about the role and importance of population and development work for the rapid and sustainable development of the country in the spirit of Resolution No. 21 on population work in the new situation. In particular, to enhance the synchronous, active and responsible participation of all levels, branches, all classes of people and the assistance of international organizations so that Nghe An can soon achieve replacement fertility, reduce the rate of increase in gender imbalance at birth, and proactively adapt to the "population aging" period.
