(Baonghean.vn) - Giap Quan carpentry village in My Thanh commune is one of the "billion-dollar" craft villages in Yen Thanh district, achieving revenue of over 8 billion VND per year.

Although the carpentry craft in Giap Quan village has a long history and has gone through many ups and downs, since 2000, the craft has been restored and developed strongly.

Developing his family's traditional carpentry craft, Mr. Ho Sy Hoang, from Giap Quan village, My Thanh commune, has invested hundreds of millions of VND in purchasing additional multi-functional machines and equipment for production. He also regularly updates his product designs.

Many households in Giap Quan village have boldly invested in purchasing machinery to improve their craft, thereby enhancing product quality and reducing labor time.

Mr. Hoang said: "Our products are usually imported from neighboring districts: Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, Hoang Mai, about 150 sets per month; we earn a profit of about 6-7 million VND."

Mr. Ho Sy Quy from Giap Quan carpentry village, My Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, said: "The market demand is increasingly diverse, with high-end wooden furniture, beds, wardrobes, etc., so in recent years, we have not only been able to make a living from this craft but also create jobs for 2-3 workers; the income reaches about over 80 million VND/year."

Besides the machine-based carving and sculpting processes, the sanding process is still maintained manually, and female workers can also do this job, earning approximately 3-4 million VND per month.

In Giap Quan village, My Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, 40 out of 103 households still practice the craft, employing over 100 workers in carpentry. Household wooden products are mainly made from readily available local wood materials such as Melaleuca, Eucalyptus, and Xoan Dau; therefore, the cost is quite low. High-end wooden furniture from Giap Quan village is also renowned far and wide for being made by skilled and experienced craftsmen. As a result, products from Giap Quan village, from household wooden furniture to high-end wooden furniture, are increasingly favored by the market.

The average monthly income of a carpenter in the craft village is approximately 10 million VND. The total revenue of Giap Quan carpentry village reaches over 8 billion VND per year, accounting for two-thirds of the village's total social income. The carpentry profession has transformed the lives of the people in Giap Quan village, with over 80% of households being well-off or wealthy.

The high-quality wooden furniture from Giáp Quán village is also renowned far and wide because it is made by skilled and experienced craftsmen.

Mr. Nguyen Vinh Hoi, Secretary of the Party Committee of My Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, said: After being recognized as a craft village (in 2015), the Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune have oriented the establishment of a cooperative to ensure the necessary elements for the development of the craft village. At the same time, we continue to mobilize and educate the people, invest in, improve quality, and develop the craft village in the future.
