The moment the liberation flag was hoisted atop the Independence Palace on the afternoon of April 30, 1975, has gone down in national history as a momentous event – the day the South was completely liberated, the country was unified, and the nation was reunited. It was not only a great victory for the Vietnamese people in the arduous and difficult resistance war against the US, but also a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism, of the will for independence and self-reliance, and of the strength of national unity.
