Unmasking the tactics of two suspects who stole over 40 motorbikes across various locations.
These two individuals were responsible for 41 motorcycle thefts across several provinces and cities, including Hanoi, Ha Nam, Hoa Binh, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, and Hai Duong, with six thefts occurring in Ha Nam province.
On September 7th, the Ha Nam Provincial Police announced that they have initiated criminal proceedings and issued detention orders against Bui Van Sinh (born in 1994) and Nguyen Van Thanh (born in 1996), both residing in Cu Yen commune, Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province, for the crimes of "theft of property" and "illegal possession of narcotics".
These two individuals were responsible for 41 motorcycle thefts across several provinces and cities: Hanoi, Ha Nam, Hoa Binh, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, and Hai Duong, including 6 thefts in Ha Nam province.
Currently, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency has recovered 26 motorcycles, which are the stolen property from thefts committed by these two suspects, and has identified the victims involved.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Duc Tung, Head of the Criminal Police Department of Ha Nam Provincial Police, said that both suspects Thanh and Sinh had previous convictions.
Specifically, Bui Van Sinh has two prior convictions for extortion, and Nguyen Van Thanh has prior convictions for theft and robbery.
"Both suspects are from Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province. Before returning to Ha Nam to rent accommodation and commit crimes, Thanh and Sinh rented a room in the Linh Dam peninsula area (Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) to connect with some key individuals involved in the sale of stolen property," Lieutenant Colonel Le Duc Tung stated.
At the police station, the suspects confessed that around mid-May 2023, they rented a room in Hoang Tay commune, Kim Bang district, Ha Nam province.
During the day, they would travel together to areas such as Nam Sach (Hai Duong); Van Giang, Van Lam (Hung Yen); Giao Thuy, Nghia Hung, Nam Truc, Nam Ninh (Nam Dinh); Phu Xuyen (Hanoi); and districts and towns in Ha Nam province to scout for unoccupied houses and commit theft.
When they saw a family locking their gate, they would loosely tie a thin wire to the gate or front door, and then return in the evening to check.
If they find that the wire securing the gate or door is still intact, indicating that the house is unoccupied, they will break the lock and enter to steal property.
On the evening of July 26th, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ha Nam Provincial Police organized an ambush and caught two suspects red-handed while they were stealing a motorbike from a household in Mang Thuong village (Nam Yen commune, Duy Tien town, Ha Nam province).
Upon searching the backpacks carried by the two suspects, the police seized numerous tools used in committing crimes. Additionally, at their rented room, the police confiscated 45 pills of synthetic drugs.
The suspects confessed that, within just four months (up to the time of their arrest), they had committed 41 burglaries and motorcycle thefts in the aforementioned areas.
The investigating agency also seized a total of 26 motorcycles of various types at the boarding house and at pawn shops, including 4 SH motorcycles. The two suspects, Thanh and Sinh, also confessed that after stealing the motorcycles, they would send messages to the Zalo group to arrange for buyers to come and pick up the vehicles.
Currently, the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Ha Nam Provincial Police is continuing to expand the investigation and verify the identities of the group of individuals specializing in the sale of stolen vehicles in Hanoi.
