The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has issued an official statement denying rumors that the national team was handed a 0-3 defeat against Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. This information stemmed from allegations of using naturalized players in violation of regulations, causing concern among football fans in the region.

Amidst speculation, the General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Windsor Paul John, quickly denied the unverified information. This move helped ease pressure on Malaysian football, which was facing the risk of sanctions from the football governing body.
On the Malaysian side, FAM Acting President Yusoff Mahadi affirmed that the current process must comply with international law and await the final conclusion. He stated: “Despite public speculation, the AFC must await the full ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). FIFA's previous decision to strip Malaysia of ranking points and award them a loss in friendly matches has led many to believe similar penalties will follow, but there is currently no final conclusion.”

While awaiting the ruling, FAM proactively reported the suspected falsification of documents for seven naturalized players to the police for investigation. This action was taken on the recommendation of the Independent Investigation Committee established by FAM itself.
Mr. Yusoff Mahadi stated: “I have completed the police report as recommended by the IIC and with the approval of the FAM Executive Committee. This incident definitely involves document forgery. We have fulfilled our responsibilities and handed over full authority to the police to handle the matter.”
