With profound significance, the 2025 mass wedding ceremony for 11 couples of workers in Nghe An province is counting down the days until its official event. The joint efforts of the business community and the dedication of the trade union officials are creating a "fairy tale wedding" in real life for these struggling workers.

Unfulfilled promises

Some love stories blossom in factories, growing amidst the worries of daily life, but the day of celebration keeps slipping away after unexpected events. For many poor workers, a wedding dress or blessings in a formal ceremony is a luxury they must put aside to prioritize their responsibilities as sons, fathers, and mothers.

The story of Ms. Le Thi Thu Ha (a worker at Goertek Microelectronic Vina Co., Ltd.) and Mr. Tran Van Phi is a challenging love journey. Meeting in early 2022, their love was blossoming, and they dreamed of a cozy wedding. However, a series of tragic events struck, testing their resilience: Ms. Ha's father suddenly passed away from end-stage liver cancer; before they could recover, her father-in-law suffered two consecutive strokes, leaving him paralyzed on one side of his body. The economic burden fell heavily on the shoulders of the two main breadwinners when her mother-in-law was diagnosed with uterine fibroids requiring surgery.

In their small house, the cost of medication for the grandparents and the treatment for their 26-month-old child, who is showing signs of autism spectrum disorder, have kept their wedding plans on hold for over two years.

Young couple Moong Van Ba and Moong Thi Huyen at Minh Tri Vinh Joint Stock Company are enjoying their happy days. Both Ba and Huyen were born in 2001, from farming families classified as poor or near-poor households in the former Ky Son district (My Ly and Keng Du). Although they had been in love for many years, due to difficult circumstances, their families had only held an engagement ceremony and not a formal wedding. When the company's union officials introduced them to the program, both were overjoyed. "I'm so happy, I never thought this would happen, even though I've always dreamed of wearing a wedding dress someday. We both agreed to participate immediately and informed both families so everyone could share in the joy," Huyen said, her eyes sparkling with happiness.

While choosing wedding dresses for his wife on their big day, groom Moong Van Ba smiled shyly: "Because Huyen's parents are busy preparing for her younger sister's wedding, they couldn't come down to Vinh to attend the mass wedding ceremony. But my father will come, he's very happy and excited, this is also the first time in his life he's been to the city."

Sharing the same plight are the couple Tran Thi Khanh Huyen (a worker at Cypress Vietnam Footwear Co., Ltd.) and Dao Van Duc. Having met in 2021, they registered their marriage right when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out. Their promise to "get married after the pandemic" was further postponed by the arrival of their little angel and the daily grind of making ends meet.

Currently, with Huyen 28 weeks pregnant with a baby girl, a proper wedding ceremony remains out of reach for her meager factory worker salary. Huyen confided, "We'll wait until the baby is older to get married, but the demands of life mean we still don't have enough money to organize a wedding. I hope that day will be a memorable experience, a milestone to bring more smiles and happiness to our little family."

Three stories, three different lives, yet they all share a common thread: the missed opportunity for happiness due to family misfortunes and economic burdens. They represent 11 exemplary couples – those who, despite facing challenges from illness, bereavement, or poverty, chose to stay together with unwavering loyalty. The desire for a complete and dignified wedding ceremony remains ever-present in their minds, as a way to compensate for past hardships.

Deeply understanding and empathizing with those feelings, after a long period of planning, the Nghe An Provincial Labor Union, in coordination with the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Youth Union, decided to organize the program.mass weddingIn 2025, the theme is "The Embrace of the Trade Union – Steadfast in Love." This is not just a movement activity, but the realization of the dedication of trade union officials in caring for the spiritual lives of workers, helping the "cells" of happiness to be nurtured and shine brightly in everyday life.

Happiness from the "Embrace of the Trade Union"

The "Trade Union Embrace - Steadfast Love" program is not just a simple ceremonial event, but an unprecedented welfare campaign. Accordingly, each couple receives a pair of wedding rings weighing 1 tael of 9999 gold, a suit, a wedding dress, bedding sets, sponsored printed photos, a photography package, a venue, a wedding car… and many other valuable gifts.

To secure these resources, the trade union officials of the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions made efforts to connect with and call for support from the community. Sharing his thoughts on the decision to fully sponsor the wedding procession, Mr. Phan Thanh Hai – Deputy General Director of VinFast Vinh (72m road) Nghe An said: “We feel extremely honored to be a part of this program, targeting workers – the main production force of society. We want couples to feel that their happiness is always watched over and supported by the business community.”

Other organizations also contributed wholeheartedly. Representatives from the Festival Center (Truong Vinh ward) provided the entire venue and wedding decorations; the owner of the spa at 12 Tran Quoc Hoan donated a special care package for the bride and expectant mother; MR Vest Vinh tailoring shop sponsored the groom's attire… Mr. Vo Khanh, a freelance photographer, proactively shared the information to encourage many other colleagues to participate in free photo shoots: “I want to help couples preserve the most meaningful moments of their lives. I believe other photographers feel the same way, and this special event will attract the attention of many people.”

As the wedding day approached, the atmosphere at the Provincial Labor Union office became increasingly bustling, with union officials busily preparing as if for their own family's wedding. Every small detail, from choosing wedding photos and tailoring outfits to meticulously selecting dress sizes for even pregnant brides, was meticulously handled by the union officials. In the shared Zalo group for the 11 couples, there were many warm messages and encouragement: “Next Sunday is your wedding, you must be so excited, right? Remember to take good care of your health and stay cheerful every day. If you have any questions, feel free to ask; we're always here for you…” These were the words of older siblings in a large family.

Expressing his gratitude for this thoughtful attention, groom Moong Van Ba shared: “I never expected happiness to come to my wife and me in such a wonderful way. The union officials were incredibly attentive and enthusiastic. Not only did my wife choose a beautiful dress, but I also found a suit that fit perfectly. I am truly looking forward to the day I can walk down the aisle with my wife.”

The mass wedding ceremony not only aims to support disadvantaged couples, but also conveys the message: The Trade Union is always a solid support, a warm common home for workers. We want workers to understand that, even though life is full of difficulties, they will never be alone on their journey to building happiness.”
