Aside from the unfortunate absence of Pham Tran Phuong (who brought so much excitement to music lovers in the first round with the song "0:00" due to personal reasons), episode 8 was a battle to find the finalists among seven contestants: Bui Caroon, Nguyen Viet Dung, Duc Anh, Tia Hai Chau, Hoang Minh Quy, Jak Nguyen, and Le Thien Hieu.

In this Competition and Composition round, Coach Le Minh Son's team received support from music advisor, musician Nguyen Cuong. Coach Le Minh Son assigned the theme of Family and Society to his contestants. He acknowledged that this theme would be a double-edged sword; if not written carefully, it would be very "bland".
After a day of composing and performing the demo of Tia Hai Chau, Le Thien Hieu and Jak Nguyen were the three contestants chosen by coach Le Minh Son. Music advisor Nguyen Cuong decided to save Bui Caroon to advance to the Stage Challenge round.
Opening this challenge was contestant Bui Caroon. Using the image of a cat, Bui Caroon wanted to express the hardships of life and the struggle for survival through his unique music with the song "The Poor Cat." The melody, and especially the mournful meowing of the cat in this song, sent chills down the listener's spine.
Judge Giáng Son commented: “When the tempo changes, I find it very interesting, giving us different emotions, and only you can sing this song; the arrangement is also great.”
As a result, Bui Caroon only received 10 out of 31 points from the expert panel.

Next up is the performance by the only female contestant in Coach Le Minh Son's team: Tia Hai Chau. This is a song Tia Hai Chau wrote about the deceased mother of a friend, titled "Mother Used to Be."
Coach Giáng Son praised Tia Hải Châu for having a very unique voice and a great arrangement that greatly enhanced the song.
Coach Le Minh Son commented: "This music has a style similar to songs from the 70s. Finding an artist like you now, I feel like I can count them on one hand. After this competition, I would like to be your producer, because you are lacking a producer by your side."
As a result, Tia Hai Chau only received 11 out of 31 points from the professional judging panel.
The third contestant to perform was Jak Nguyen, who also presented a song about his mother, titled "The Scent of Mother." He recounted the story of his mother's struggles as a street vendor to support him. He said that whenever he ran to hug her, she would push him away and say, "I smell terrible." But for Jak Nguyen, that was the scent of life, one that stayed with him and haunted him, making him vow to work even harder to repay his mother's kindness.
Coach Le Minh Son said: “Jak Nguyen has won me over, and this song is much better than the previous one, and it's full of emotion. Congratulations.”
As a result, Jak Nguyen received 22 out of 31 points from the expert panel.

The last contestant to perform on stage was Le Thien Hieu, who had recently taken social media by storm with his song "Ong Ba Anh" (Grandparents). He presented the song "1+1" with the life philosophy "Can we live life regardless of others?", promising to create another sensation with his distinctive musical style and ability to energize the stage.
Coach Duc Tri said: “You always bring excitement; I was speechless because I didn't dare ask you why 1+1=3. You took me through so many different emotions. You are a star shining in a very bright constellation, because all the energy put into you is transformed into incredibly charming songs.”
And his song "1+1" received a perfect score of 31/31 from the judging panel.
After four performances, Le Thien Hieu was the leading contestant and won overwhelmingly in terms of points, making him the only contestant from Le Minh Son's team to advance to the finals.
Episode 9 of Sing My Song, the final episode of the Songwriting and Competition round, will feature the competition of Coach Giáng Son's team and will air at 9 PM on January 15th on VTV3 - Vietnam Television.
