        In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh stated that during the days of national mourning for the late General Secretary Do Muoi, the funeral organizing committee received attention from Party and State leaders, the people and international friends. To date, the organizing committee has completed the procession of the late General Secretary to his final resting place in his hometown.

        “May the soul of comrade Do Muoi rest in eternal peace. Farewell comrade,” said Mr. Truong Hoa Binh, announcing the end of the funeral.

        “After the memorial service at the Tran Thanh Tong National Funeral Home in Hanoi, we are here to hold the funeral of the late General Secretary Do Muoi,” the Deputy Prime Minister said, announcing the start of the funeral ceremony.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that in the past few days, there have been more than 1,600 delegations with more than 60,000 people. Representatives of local agencies, organizations, people, dignitaries, religions, organizations, and individuals at home and abroad have come to the National Funeral Home.

There were more than 100 diplomatic delegations, three high-level delegations of party and state leaders from Laos, Cambodia, and Cuba. Many leaders of other countries sent their condolences.

The national anthem was played. Everyone stood solemnly, facing the coffin and portrait of the late General Secretary.

After the funeral was held all day yesterday (October 6), at 9am this morning (October 7), the memorial service for former General Secretary Do Muoi was held at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. At the same time, the memorial service for former General Secretary Do Muoi was also held at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City.

After the memorial service, from 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, the funeral of former General Secretary Do Muoi will take place in his hometown, Ma Vang area, village 1, Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi.

After a period of serious illness, despite the devoted treatment of Party and State leaders, professors and doctors, and the wholehearted care of his family, former General Secretary Do Muoi passed away at 11:12 p.m. on October 1 (August 22, Mau Tuat year) at the 108 Central Military Hospital, Hanoi.

The passing of former General Secretary Do Muoi is a great loss to our Party, State and people. To pay tribute to comrade Do Muoi, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to hold a state funeral for comrade Do Muoi on October 6 and 7.

During the two days of National Mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast in offices and public places and entertainment activities will be suspended.
