Actor Lee Min Ho, actress Song Hye Kyo, and K-pop boy group EXO were voted the most popular Hallyu stars of 2016.

Soompi, a US-based online news site that tracks Korean popular culture, announced the results of this poll at its 12th annual Soompi Awards. The poll included participation from fans in 139 countries around the world.

According to the poll results, Lee Min Ho was named Actor of the Year, beating strong contenders Song Joong Ki (star of Descendants of the Sun) and Park Bo Gum, who rose to fame with the success of Love in the Moonlight.

Meanwhile, Song Hye Kyo was voted Actress of the Year, beating out rivals Yoona, the singer and actress from the girl group Girls' Generation, who starred in the drama series The K2.

The Artist of the Year and Best Male Group awards went to EXO, who topped the charts with their hits Lotto, Lucky One, Monster, and For Life.

Coming in second in the Artist of the Year category was BTS (Bangtan Boys), who also won Album of the Year with their second CD titled Wings.

TWICE, the K-pop girl group that dominated the charts with their songs Cheer Up and TT, was named Best Girl Group.

The awards for Best Male Solo Artist and Best Female Solo Artist (respectively) went to Taemin of the boy group SHINee and Taeyeon of Girls' Generation.
