Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal to help Leicester City beat Crystal Palace 1-0, extending their lead over second-placed Tottenham to eight points.

At Selhurst Park on March 19th, Mahrez missed the first opportunity in the ninth minute when he headed wide from a favorable position. However, the Algerian midfielder redeemed himself with a tap-in after a cross from Jamie Vardy, scoring the crucial winning goal for Leicester.

In injury time of the second half, Damien Delaney of Crystal Palace hit the crossbar with his shot, and that was the only bright spot for the home side in the match. Leicester successfully held on to secure three important points.

This is the third consecutive match in which Leicester have won with only one goal scored. In round 29, they beat Watford 1-0, with Mahrez once again playing the hero. In round 30, Shinji Okazaki's spectacular overhead kick secured three points for them against Newcastle. Further back, in round 27, Leicester defeated Norwich 1-0 thanks to a goal from Leonardo Ulloa.

For Palace, this defeat extends their disappointing run of form. Since December 19th last year, Alan Pardew's team has failed to win a single Premier League match.

Following this match, the gap between Leicester and Tottenham widened to eight points. Mauricio Pochettino's team will face Bournemouth tonight, Sunday, March 20th.

Having secured three more points, Claudio Ranieri decided to raise his team's points target for this season from 79 to 82 points.

82 points is also the maximum number of points Tottenham could earn if they win all their remaining matches of the season. However, if they win six of the remaining seven matches,LeicesterThey will be the new Premier League champions.
