Online scammers selling cheap clothes defraud people of hundreds of millions of VND.
Exploiting the desire of many people to buy cheap clothes online during the Lunar New Year season, the perpetrator defrauded numerous victims nationwide, stealing over 250 million VND.
On the afternoon of February 9th, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Tay Ninh Provincial Police, in coordination with the Duong Minh Chau District Police and the Dong Thap Provincial Police, summoned Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh (born in 2004, residing in An Giang) for questioning regarding her alleged misconduct.Online fraud and misappropriation of assets.
At the police station, Linh initially confessed that since October 2023, she had conceived the idea of selling cheap clothes online with the intention of defrauding others. She then downloaded images of women's pajamas from the internet and posted wholesale advertisements with minimum order quantities of approximately 50 sets. Using a Zalo account named "Shop Đồ Bộ Pijama Lụa Xước," she joined various groups on Zalo and Facebook. She proactively befriended many people, mainly owners of clothing stores nationwide.

After befriending the buyers, Linh added them to private Zalo groups that she created, each with several hundred members or more. In these private groups, Linh posted information about selling new, cheap clothing to encourage members to contact her and make purchases. After a successful transaction, Linh requested the buyers to transfer deposits of up to 5 million VND in multiple installments to her bank account and e-wallet. After committing the crime, Linh blocked communication, unfriended the victims on social media, and logged them out of the private groups.
Using the above tactics, Linh defrauded numerous victims nationwide, stealing over 250 million VND through bank accounts and e-wallets. Investigations revealed that in Tay Ninh province alone, Linh defrauded one victim of nearly 3 million VND.
