Putin's three-day ceasefire order has come into effect.

According to RIA Novosti on May 8, the ceasefire announced by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces, President Vladimir Putin, came into effect on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Based on humanitarian considerations, Russia declared a ceasefire during the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, from 00:00 on May 8th to 00:00 on May 10th (Moscow time).

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the purpose of the Easter ceasefire previously proposed by Russia, as well as the current initiative to declare a ceasefire during the holiday period from May 8 to 10, is to test Kyiv's readiness to seek a lasting and sustainable peace between Russia and Ukraine.

Peskov emphasized that the shelling would cease, but if the Kiev authorities did not take any goodwill steps to do so, and continued their attempts to attack Russian positions or targets, then an appropriate response from Moscow would be given immediately.

According to the Russian side, the previous ceasefire during Easter was also violated by the Ukrainian government under President Volodymyr Zelensky, even though Kyiv had agreed to it before it took effect. The Easter ceasefire was announced by President Vladimir Putin and was in effect from 6:00 PM on April 19th to 12:00 AM on April 21st. The Russian president stated that he believed Ukraine would follow Russia's example.

At the same time, Putin noted that the Russian military must be ready to repel any ceasefire violations and provocations by the enemy. The Ministry of Defense subsequently reported that, during the ceasefire, 4,900 ceasefire violations were recorded from the Ukrainian side.
