Depending on each unit's work schedule, the actual time off can be more flexible. Many businesses may give employees a continuous 4-day holiday from January 1st to January 4th (Thursday to Sunday). Afterwards, employees may be scheduled to work extra days depending on internal plans.
Some other departments still work on Fridays or Saturdays. Therefore, employees need to check for updates from HR or management to proactively prepare their personal schedules.
Lunar New Year Holiday Schedule 2026
The Ministry of Interior has announced the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2026 for all officials, civil servants, and employees at administrative agencies, public service organizations, and socio-political organizations.
According to the announcement, the Tet holiday will last 5 days, from Monday, February 16, 2026 (29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) to Friday, February 20, 2026 (4th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Horse). The schedule includes one day off before Tet and four days off after Tet, creating favorable conditions for preparing for the spring festival and family reunions.
Many businesses tend to incorporate additional weekends, compensatory days off, or swapped days off, so the total Tet holiday in 2026 could last 7-9 days. This period could fall between February 14th and February 22nd, 2026, depending on each company's schedule.
