Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2026 for officials, civil servants, and employees of administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, and socio-political organizations.

The Ministry of Interior has just announced the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2026 for administrative agencies, public service organizations, and political organizations. According to the approved plan, civil servants and public employees will have 5 days off as prescribed, including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet, from Monday, February 16, 2026 (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) to Friday, February 20, 2026 (the 4th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Horse). Adding the weekend, the total holiday period extends to 9 consecutive days.

During the Lunar New Year holiday period in 2026, agencies must still maintain a staff on duty as required to handle any arising issues. Many units are required to develop specific plans to ensure uninterrupted service to the public. The focus is on maintaining the ability to handle unexpected situations and ensuring market stability and the supply and demand of goods before, during, and after the Tet holiday.

For employees who are not civil servants or public officials, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2026 will be decided by the employer. Businesses can choose to take 1, 2, or 3 days off at the end of the Year of the Snake, combined with the number of days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse, so that the total number of holiday days is suitable for production and business conditions. The Ministry of Interior had previously consulted 13 ministries and agencies, and all agreed with the holiday schedule proposed by the Ministry.

The Government Office announced that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has officially approved the plan for a nine-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2026. The Ministry of Interior has been tasked with widely publicizing the plan so that agencies, organizations, and businesses can proactively arrange their work schedules. In addition, ministries, sectors, and localities are encouraged to implement measures to stabilize the economy, curb inflation, and ensure people's livelihoods throughout the holiday period.
