The World Food Programme (WFP) has run out of aid to distribute in eastern Aleppo, Syria.

With the harsh winter approaching, approximately 275,000 people are trapped in eastern Aleppo. On November 13, the United Nations distributed dry rations to the people there, but the UN Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Ramesh Rajasingham, said the area urgently needs food and other supplies as soon as possible.

“We have learned that in the last 24 hours, many people have left eastern Aleppo. We don’t have the exact number yet, but we have a plan to assist them by enlisting the help of other colleagues, and we also have a UN support operation in western Aleppo.”

"In the East, we have secured the approval of armed groups. They will guarantee our security while we work. We also have unofficial assurances from Russia, and once we receive official assurances, we will quickly provide aid to Aleppo," said Ramesh Rajasingham.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Red Crescent has recorded approximately 4,000 people fleeing eastern Aleppo to Jibreen in the west of the city, which is controlled by government forces.

UN humanitarian spokesman Jens Laerke said on November 28 that the Syrian Red Crescent had provided them with food and essential assistance.

Syrian government forces are rapidly advancing into eastern Aleppo and are gaining the upper hand. The Syrian army accuses opposition forces of holding civilians captive to use them as human shields.
