According to Ria Novosti on January 6th, in an interview with the ArmyInform publication of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on January 5th, Alexei Taran, head of the Main Directorate of Doctrine and Training of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated that a coalition of 34 countries, with approximately 170 headquarters, has been established to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces abroad. These countries include the United States, the United Kingdom, most European Union (EU) countries, Canada, Norway, Australia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Georgia, Moldova, and Albania.

Mr. Taran added that EU countries do not include Hungary, Austria, or Croatia. Leading the basic integrated weapons training for the Ukrainian army are experts from the UK.

Taran noted that Kyiv's partner countries training Ukrainian soldiers do not do this independently, but as part of an organizational structure. Accordingly, there are two such support groups.

"The Security Assistance Group of Ukraine (SAG-U), led by the US, and the second group, EUMAM, whose main function is to organize, coordinate, and provide all types of training. This begins with training new recruits and ends with restoring the combat effectiveness of units, brigades, and command centers that have fought and suffered losses," Taran stated.

The head of the Main Directorate of Doctrine and Training of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that the EUMAM group's operations are commanded by Dutch Army Lieutenant General Michael Vanderleen. In addition, approximately 170 headquarters and units at various levels have been established and are conducting training in Poland, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Romania, and North Macedonia. Over two years, more than 21,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been trained.
