The question of whether AI will transform education is no longer a hypothesis. This transformation is happening every day in schools and classrooms around the world.

The rapid development of AI has changed how students access information, the speed of their feedback, and their learning methods.

In this context, teachers who rely solely on traditional teaching methods may face more challenges than before.

Conversely, educators who know how to encourage discussion, build critical thinking, and connect with students are expected to play a more crucial role in the age of AI.

According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), skills such as analytical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration will become core competencies of the future workforce, and these are precisely the qualities that teachers need to help students develop.

AI has been widely used in education.

The application of AI in schools is increasing very rapidly.

A survey conducted by the American education magazine Education Week on the LinkedIn platform in early 2025 showed that approximately 60% of participants were using AI in their teaching, a significant increase from 40% a year earlier.

Currently, many teachers use ChatGPT to create lesson plans; write emails to parents; adapt materials for students of different levels; and create questions and assignments.

Meanwhile, education administrators are also beginning to use AI to assist in scheduling classes, analyzing data, and monitoring school operations.

From the students' perspective, it's more difficult to statistically track AI usage because many are concerned that openly using AI tools might be controversial. However, experts believe that AI is now present in almost all stages of the learning process.

AI has the ability to generate content very quickly, personalize interpretations, and help users access information almost instantly.

However, this technology still has a major limitation: AI doesn't truly understand whether students have grasped the knowledge or not.

According to a 2024 survey by the Pew Research Center (USA) of nearly 2,500 public school teachers in the US, only about 6% believe that AI brings more benefits than harms to education.

This shows that even though AI is being used increasingly, many teachers remain cautious about the true impact of this technology in the classroom.

Can AI replace teachers?

According to education experts, the likelihood of AI completely replacing teachers in the near future is very low.

AI can quite effectively replicate highly repetitive or standardized teaching models, such as delivering foundational knowledge; creating tests; grading quizzes; and providing automated feedback.

However, activities requiring human interaction, such as direct instruction, real-time problem-solving, group discussions, building learning motivation, and providing psychological support to students, remain areas where AI is unlikely to replace teachers.

Experts believe that classes focused on hands-on activities, projects, teamwork, and real-world experiences will continue to require the central role of the teacher.

In addition, many new career positions are emerging, such as AI-integrated curriculum design specialists; AI implementation consultants in schools; and digital learning experience coordinators.

This suggests that the teaching profession may not be disappearing, but is shifting to a new model.

The role of teachers is changing.

In the age of AI, teachers are no longer the sole source of information. Instead, their role is shifting to guiding students in evaluating information; helping students understand the meaning behind data; developing critical thinking; and building collaboration and problem-solving skills.

According to the EdWeek Research Center (USA), approximately 50% of teachers will have participated in AI-related training courses by 2025, a significant increase from just 13% in 2023.

This shows that understanding and using AI is gradually becoming an almost mandatory requirement for modern teachers.

Many schools are now also changing the way they assign homework, focusing more on the ability to apply knowledge; creative thinking; teamwork; and personal responsibility, rather than just requiring students to provide the correct answers.

Skills teachers need in the age of AI

According to the WEF, three skills will help teachers best adapt to an AI-integrated educational environment:

Adaptability

Teachers need to constantly update their knowledge of new technologies and adapt their teaching methods to keep pace with the rapid changes in AI.

Communication skills

When information can be provided by AI almost instantly, the value of teachers lies in their ability to explain, guide, and help students understand the subject matter in depth.

Judgment

Teachers need to know how to design lessons and assessments that focus on the thinking process, rather than just looking at the final outcome, something that AI can help create very quickly.

AI is unlikely to replace the human element in education.

Experts believe that AI will undoubtedly dramatically change how education operates in the future. However, the most difficult thing technology can replace remains human connection.

A good teacher not only imparts knowledge but also motivates, builds confidence, provides emotional support, and helps students grow in thinking and life skills.

AI can become a very powerful tool to support education, but the role of the teacher in guiding and inspiring students is still considered an element that is difficult to completely replace.
