Sentenced to 13 months in prison for accepting debt in drugs

On the morning of July 10, in Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district People's Court opened a mobile trial for defendant Tran Ba Quoc in hamlet 13, Son Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district for the act of illegal possession of drugs.
According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Quynh Luu district: Tran Ba Quoc (born in 1989), residing in hamlet 13, Son Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, lent 8 million VND to a young man named Son (unknown background, specific address) in Cau Giat town, Quynh Luu district.

On the afternoon of May 27, 2019, Son asked Quoc to come to Hai Nam motel in Quynh Ba commune, Quynh Luu district to pay. When arriving at the meeting point at Hai Nam motel, Son said he did not have any money and then gave Quoc a pack of cigarettes labeled 555, inside was a package of crystal meth for Quoc to use. Quoc knew there was crystal meth inside, so he took it and put it in his pocket and left.
When he arrived at the Hai Nam motel, he was discovered and arrested by the Quynh Luu District Police working group. Quoc was found with a pack of blue 555 brand cigarettes, inside was a pack of white toilet paper, inside the toilet paper was a pack of potylene containing white crystals (suspected to be synthetic drugs in the form of rocks) and a piece of glass faucet of unknown shape.
Through the examination of the Criminal Technique Department of the Provincial Police, it was concluded that the white crystalline particles seized from Tran Ba Quoc were drugs (Methamphetamine), weighing 0.640 grams.
The above behavior of defendant Tran Ba Quoc violated the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics" according to point C, clause 1, article 249 of the Penal Code. The court sentenced Tran Ba Quoc to 13 months in prison from the date of detention.
