Sentenced to 13 months in prison for accepting drug-related debts.

On the morning of July 10th, at Quynh Long commune, the People's Court of Quynh Luu district held a mobile trial for defendant Tran Ba Quoc from Hamlet 13, Son Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, on the charge of illegally possessing narcotics.
According to the indictment of the People's Procuratorate of Quynh Luu District: Tran Ba Quoc (born in 1989), residing in Hamlet 13, Son Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, lent 8 million VND to a young man named Son (whose identity and specific address are unknown) in Cau Giat Town, Quynh Luu District.

On the afternoon of May 27, 2019, Son arranged to meet Quoc at the Hai Nam guesthouse in Quynh Ba commune, Quynh Luu district, to pay the money. Upon arriving at the meeting point at the Hai Nam guesthouse, Son said he didn't have the money yet and gave Quoc a pack of 555 brand cigarettes containing a packet of methamphetamine for Quoc to use. Quoc knew there was methamphetamine inside, so he took it, put it in his pants pocket, and left.
Upon arriving at the Hai Nam guesthouse, Quoc was discovered and arrested by a task force from the Quynh Luu District Police. They seized from him a pack of 555 brand cigarettes (blue), inside which was a white packet of toilet paper containing a polyethylene bag with white crystalline particles (suspected to be synthetic methamphetamine) and a piece of glass tubing of unknown shape.
According to the forensic examination by the Criminal Technical Department of the Provincial Police, the white crystalline particles seized from Tran Ba Quoc were identified as methamphetamine, weighing 0.640 grams.
The defendant Tran Ba Quoc's actions constituted the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics" under point C, clause 1, article 249 of the Penal Code. The court sentenced Tran Ba Quoc to 13 months of imprisonment from the date of his detention.
