4 years in prison for beating 79 year old mother
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, 56 years old, expressed regret, saying she "felt ashamed" when watching the video of herself abusing her elderly mother, before being sentenced to 4 years in prison.
The panel of judges assessed that the defendant's actions caused public outrage, affected good customs and traditions, and filial piety towards parents... so she must be severely punished. According to the indictment, Hoa lived with her 79-year-old mother and 32-year-old daughter. Because her mother did not give her land but left it to her three grandchildren, she often quarreled loudly.

At the end of 2018, the old lady fell and injured herself, unable to walk. Hoa took care of her mother herself but kept scolding her mother because she was upset about not being able to take care of her.division of assetsIn September 2019, Hoa's daughter had an accident and was being treated at home. She witnessed her mother abusing her grandmother and used her phone to record it.
A year later, the old woman died of respiratory failure. At the funeral, relatives heard that Hoa had abused her mother and asked about her. Hoa's daughter showed some clips, which were posted on social media by her family. The police then investigated and prosecuted Hoa.
