Sentenced to 4 years in prison for beating his 79-year-old mother.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, 56 years old, expressed remorse, saying she felt "ashamed" when watching the video of herself mistreating her elderly mother, before being sentenced to 4 years in prison.
The court assessed that the defendant's actions caused public outrage, affected public morality and the tradition of filial piety towards parents... therefore, a strict punishment was necessary. According to the indictment, Hoa lived with her 79-year-old mother and 32-year-old daughter. Because her mother did not give her land but left it to three nieces, she frequently quarreled loudly.

At the end of 2018, the elderly woman fell and suffered an injury, rendering her unable to walk. Hoa took care of her directly but constantly scolded her mother out of resentment over not being able to care for her.
