Mexico is the starting point of the FIFA World Cup 2026™. At the Estadio Azteca, the opening ceremony before Mexico's match against South Africa was themed around celebrating papel picado, the traditional paper-cutting art of the country.

Canada and the United States continue the series of opening ceremonies.
Following Mexico, Canada will host its opening ceremony at BMO Field in Toronto before the match between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The program, themed around a multicultural journey, will portray a modern Canada built upon diverse communities and cultures.
Artists Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé will be notable figures in the opening program in Canada.
The series of events concluded with an opening ceremony at the SoFi Arena in Los Angeles before the USA vs. Paraguay game. The show in the USA was styled in a Hollywood fashion, combining lighting, state-of-the-art performance technology, and featuring many international pop and hip-hop artists.
