Following the artistic performance, the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ will take place, marking the official start of the biggest football event on the planet.

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will feature three opening ceremonies for the first time.

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ is a special World Cup as it will be held for the first time in three countries: Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Along with the expansion of the tournament's scale, FIFA will also hold three separate opening ceremonies before the first match of each host nation.

According to the plan, the opening ceremony series will take place over two days, June 12th and 13th, Vietnam time. The entire program is directed by Marco Balich, who has participated in many major sports, cultural, and entertainment events around the world.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that this year's opening ceremony series showcases the exceptional scale and historic milestone of the FIFA World Cup 2026™. A common thread across the three programs is the recreation of the FIFA World Cup™ trophy through the artistic language, music, lighting, and unique cultural identity of each host nation.

Mexico kicks off with traditional colors.

Mexico is the starting point of the FIFA World Cup 2026™. At the Estadio Azteca, the opening ceremony before Mexico's match against South Africa was themed around celebrating papel picado, the traditional paper-cutting art of the country.

The program in Mexico promises a vibrant, festive atmosphere, combining music, lights, and stage performances. The image of the FIFA World Cup™ trophy will be recreated in a space steeped in Mexican culture.

Shakira and Burna Boy are expected to appear at the event in Mexico. Both are anticipated to perform the tournament's official song, "Dai Dai," as a highlight before kick-off.

Canada and the United States continue the series of opening ceremonies.

Following Mexico, Canada will host its opening ceremony at BMO Field in Toronto before the match between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The program, themed around a multicultural journey, will portray a modern Canada built upon diverse communities and cultures.

Artists Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé will be notable figures in the opening program in Canada.

The series of events concluded with an opening ceremony at the SoFi Arena in Los Angeles before the USA vs. Paraguay game. The show in the USA was styled in a Hollywood fashion, combining lighting, state-of-the-art performance technology, and featuring many international pop and hip-hop artists.

With three opening ceremonies in three host countries, the FIFA World Cup 2026™ promises to offer a different kind of warm-up before teams enter the race in the biggest World Cup in history.
