Liverpool joins the race to sign 17-year-old prodigy.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool have added Red Star Belgrade's young midfielder Andrija Maksimovic to their list of transfer targets.
The player born in 2007 is emerging as one of the brightest young talents in Serbian football, with notable debuts in both the Champions League and the Nations League for the national team.
Despite not yet being 18 years old, Maksimovic has attracted attention from many major clubs in Europe. Juventus, Manchester City, and Borussia Dortmund have all been monitoring the midfielder for a long time, with Dortmund currently considered the strongest contender due to its reputation for developing young players. However, with Liverpool's involvement, the race to sign Maksimovic has become even more intense.
Liverpool's current squad, featuring midfielders like Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister, is still performing impressively, helping the club lead the Premier League table. However, manager Arne Slot still wants to strengthen the squad to ensure depth for important competitions this season.
According to Sky Sports Germany, major clubs may wait until next summer's transfer window to make more aggressive moves in their pursuit of Maksimovic. Currently, the player has a contract with Red Star Belgrade until June 2027, and the Serbian club values Maksimovic at around €15 million.
