Jurgen Klopp's team won 4-1 in the match on the evening of December 27th, reclaiming second place in the Premier League table from Man City.

This marks the seventh time in the Premier League this year that Liverpool have scored four goals in a single match. The emphatic victory at Anfield earned Jurgen Klopp's side their 40th point, reclaiming second place from Manchester City. The gap between them and leaders Chelsea has also narrowed to just six points.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes adopted a physically demanding style of play from the start. The visiting players pressed high, not hesitating to engage in physical challenges to disrupt Liverpool's group coordination. In attack, Stoke City actively used long balls to target their two strikers, Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters, who are excellent in aerial duels.

Stoke City got off to a good start, scoring the opening goal in the 12th minute. Sadio Mane miscontrolled the ball with his chest while dropping back to help defend, allowing Erik Pieters to steal it and deliver a cross for Walters to head the ball into the net past goalkeeper Mignolet.

After conceding a goal, Liverpool launched an all-out attack. The Anfield side held possession for over 60%, dominating the game. The pressure was constantly increasing, and in the 35th minute, Stoke City's defense made a mistake. Glen Johnson miscontrolled the ball, and Adam Lalana immediately unleashed a shot from a tight angle, bringing Liverpool level.

As the first half entered its 44th minute, Klopp's side scored their second goal with a moment of brilliance from Fernando. Surrounded by four opposing players, the number 11 unleashed a shot that struck both goalposts before rolling into the net, sending the Anfield crowd into a frenzy.

In the second half, Liverpool completely dominated the game, relentlessly bombarding Stoke City's goal. Klopp's side easily added two more goals thanks to an own goal by Imbula (60th minute) and a goal by Sturridge (70th minute). Notably, Sturridge scored less than a minute after coming on as a substitute.
