Coach Jurgen Klopp and his team won 4-1 in the match on the evening of December 27, reclaiming second place on the Premier League table from Man City.

This is the seventh time in the Premier League this year that Liverpool have scored four goals in a match. The big win at Anfield helped Jurgen Klopp's team pocket their 40th point, regaining second place from Man City. The gap between them and the top of Chelsea has also been narrowed to 6 points.

Coach Mark Hughes let Stoke City start the game with a physical style of play. The away team's players pressed closely, not hesitating to collide to destroy Liverpool's ability to coordinate as a team. In attack, Stoke City actively used the ball in the air to target the two strikers with good aerial ability, Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters.

Stoke City got off to a flying start, opening the scoring in the 12th minute. Sadio Mane failed to control the ball with his chest as he dropped back to help defend, allowing Erik Pieters to intercept and cross for Walters to head past goalkeeper Mignolet.

After conceding the goal, Liverpool poured forward to attack. The Anfield home team held the ball for more than 60% of the time, dominating the game. The pressure continued to increase and in the 35th minute, Stoke City's defense made a mistake. Glen Johnson failed to control the ball, and immediately Adam Lalana kicked a shot from a tight angle, bringing Liverpool the equalizer.

As the first half entered the 44th minute, Klopp's team scored the second goal thanks to a moment of brilliance from Fermino. Surrounded by four away players, number 11 kicked the ball and sent it hitting both posts before rolling into the net, causing the Anfield stadium to explode.

In the second half, Liverpool completely dominated the game, continuously bombarding Stoke City's goal. Coach Klopp's team had no difficulty scoring two more goals thanks to an own goal by Imbula (minute 60) and a goal by Sturridge (minute 70). Notably, Sturridge scored just under a minute after coming on as a substitute.
