With an external appearance no different from mushrooms used as food or wild mushrooms growing in nature, this is a type of drug mushroom because it contains an extremely strong drug, on the list of the most dangerous drugs today.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Cuong, Team Leader of Team 2, Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Hai Phong Police, said that this type of mushroom also has other names such as magic mushrooms, hallucinogenic mushrooms, magic mushrooms... Each mushroom is cut into 2-3 parts, the long mushroom stem can be cut into more parts. And each small piece like this will cost about 500,000 VND for grade 1 goods.
The two active ingredients Psilocine and Psilotcin are the cause of strong hallucinations for users. These two active ingredients are number 36 in list 1 - drugs absolutely prohibited for use in both medicine and social life of Decree 73/2018/ND-CP regulating the list of drugs and precursors.
These are natural active ingredients present in the mushroom, not marinated, so they bring a soothing feeling. According to Lieutenant Colonel Cuong, this type of mushroom grows quite commonly in many places around the world such as North America, Mexico, South America, Scandinavia and some regions in Asia, and has just been introduced to Vietnam.
Experts say that the narcotic substances in this mushroom make users feel elated, fly high, laugh and cry for no reason, making depressed people become unusually cheerful. In particular, each piece of mushroom is called in slang a “trip” - meaning a journey. It can be an experience of going to heaven, to hell, to the moon, to the bottom of the sea according to the user's imagination, and the "trip" can last from 6 to 20 hours, depending on the user's physical condition and dosage.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Cuc, Department of Treatment of Substance Abuse Disorders, Hanoi Mental Hospital, said that in reality, there are people who are so weak that they become exhausted and cannot escape that ghostly trip without being awakened by someone else. The more they use, the more dependent they become on this extremely toxic drug. Scientists around the world have yet to explain the strange mechanism that the active ingredients in this magic mushroom cause for users.
Lieutenant Colonel Cuong warned that with the shape of mushrooms, it is very easy for young people to hide them in their pockets, wallets... at some entertainment venues.
