According to leaker Bald Panda, the Xiaomi 17 Air boasts an incredibly impressive body with a thickness of only 5.5mm. This is even thinner than the expected 5.6mm thickness of Apple's iPhone Air. The sketches show the device using a premium metal frame with strongly rounded corners, creating a soft and luxurious feel.
The highlight on the back is the horizontally arranged dual camera setup. This is seen as Xiaomi's attempt to balance minimalist aesthetics and photography capabilities on an ultra-thin device. The front of the phone is expected to feature a 6.59-inch screen, providing ample display space despite its slim and lightweight design.
Specifications and reasons for project cancellation
Before being discontinued, leaked information indicated that the Xiaomi 17 Air was expected to boast powerful specifications, including a 6.6-inch screen and a main camera sensor of up to 200MP. However, all of this remained at the internal testing stage and never progressed beyond the prototype phase.
The main reason for the project's cancellation is believed to be the sluggish sales of ultra-thin smartphones from competitors in the market. Optimizing battery life and heat dissipation in a body only 5.5mm thick also presents significant technical challenges.
