However, the world's most expensive pineapple, priced at $15,000 per fruit, actually originates from the Lost Gardens of Heligan in England. They are named after the garden – the Heligan pineapple.

In 1997, Prince Charles of the British royal family paid a private visit to this special garden. In October of the same year, the first Heligan pineapples were "born" there. They were honored to be presented to Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her 50th wedding anniversary. The taste of Heligan pineapples is described as delicious and completely fiber-free.

This pineapple variety is grown using traditional methods passed down through centuries. The Lost Gardens of Heligan had to build special greenhouses to create a tropical climate for them. The soil is regularly fertilized with horse manure, dried straw, and animal urine. Because of the natural, pesticide-free cultivation methods used, growers have to wait five years for the plants to mature and another two years before they can be harvested.

To ensure fruit quality, gardeners must carefully control temperature and humidity to prevent waterlogging. Fresh horse manure is regularly replaced to maintain soil temperature throughout the cold winter. Pineapple pits are covered with cardboard to minimize heat transfer into the pits.

The meticulous cultivation and care process is one of the reasons why the price of Heligan pineapples soars. In addition, the limited quantity and the label "tropical fruit grown in a cold climate" also contribute to pushing the price of Heligan pineapples up to $15,000 per fruit.
