A series of new cars reached Vietnamese consumers in early 2017.
Having previously entered the Vietnamese market, many new car models with changes and improvements that Vietnamese people are eagerly awaiting will begin distribution in the market from January 2017.
Following their spectacular debuts at the auto shows held in Vietnam at the end of 2016, and after more than two months of market research, the highly anticipated mainstream car models such as the Chevrolet Trax, Toyota Fortuner, and Honda Civic, with a series of changes, will go on sale from January 2017.
Right in the first month of 2017, Vietnamese people had more options when buying cars. |
New Toyota Fortuner
After several delays, the new generation of Toyota's best-selling SUV in Vietnam will officially announce its price on January 5th. Completely revamped in terms of exterior and interior design, along with the addition of new features and technologies, the Toyota Fortuner received a great deal of attention from Vietnamese consumers when it was unexpectedly displayed at the Vietnam Motor Show 2016.

According to initial information from Toyota Vietnam, the new generation Toyota Fortuner will be distributed to consumers as a completely imported vehicle. Therefore, the price of this SUV is expected to be higher than the previous generation. Details about the different versions of this model have not yet been announced by the Japanese car brand. With its brand advantages, popularity in Vietnam, and groundbreaking changes in design and technology, the Toyota Fortuner promises to be very attractive to customers.
New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
Having already become a direct competitor to the Toyota Fortuner in Vietnam, Mitsubishi certainly couldn't remain indifferent to the face of Toyota's updated Fortuner, especially with the Pajero Sport.
The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will compete directly with the Toyota Fortuner in the Vietnamese market. |
Appearing at the same time as the Toyota Fortuner at the 2016 Vietnam Motor Show, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport was one step ahead of its competitor by announcing its price in 2016. Accordingly, this SUV was distributed in Vietnam in two versions: a 4x2 AT priced at 1.4 billion VND and a 4x4 AT priced at 1.55 billion VND. Both versions share the same 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine, producing 220 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 285 Nm at 4,000 rpm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Mitsubishi began accepting orders for the Pajero Sport in December 2016, with the first batch of vehicles scheduled for delivery to customers in February 2017. Similar to its competitor, the Toyota Fortuner, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is also imported as a complete unit from Thailand.
New Honda Civic
The Honda Civic has been a sensation not only in Vietnam but also since its debut on the global automotive market last year. Vietnamese consumers seem to have ample information about the new generation of the Honda Civic in Vietnam, as the model is being displayed at Honda dealerships nationwide. However, the most interesting point is that the price of this sedan is still being kept secret by the Japanese car brand.

Faced with intense competition from numerous rivals in the C-segment sedan market, and with the groundbreaking changes to the Civic, Honda seems to be carefully considering all factors to determine the most appropriate price for this model.
One of the most notable features of the new Honda Civic is its 1.5-liter turbo engine, which delivers up to 170 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, paired with a CVT continuously variable transmission. According to Honda, with power equivalent to the 2.4-liter engine previously used in its sibling model, the CR-V, the new Honda Civic consumes an average of only about 5.8 liters per 100 km. This model will be imported as a complete unit from Thailand and will be sold in Vietnam starting in January 2017.
New Chevrolet Trax
Equipped with a range of advanced technologies and features, imported directly from South Korea, and priced at 769 million VND as announced by GM Vietnam… the Chevrolet Trax is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the urban compact SUV segment, which is currently dominated by the Ford EcoSport.
The Chevrolet Trax will be distributed in Vietnam as a completely built-up import from South Korea. |
As announced by the American automaker in Vietnam, since its introduction last October, the Chevrolet Trax has only been available with a single engine option: a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged Ecotec engine producing 140 horsepower at 4,900-6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 200 Nm at 1,850-4,900 rpm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Compared to its domestic rival, the Ford EcoSport, the Chevrolet Trax is superior in terms of features and equipment; however, its price will be a significant obstacle preventing it from gaining an advantage when it goes on sale in January 2017.
