Recently, Nghe An Newspaper published an article: “A young woman cried miserably when a group of young men “captured her wife” in Quy Hop district (Nghe An). Immediately afterwards, the identity of the mastermind in the above “wife capture” case was identified as Mr. Truong Van Bien (born in 1992) residing in Quen village, Lien Hop commune, Quy Hop district (Nghe An) and the young woman “captured” in the clip was Ms. Vi Thi Hien residing in Quan village, Lien Hop commune, Quy Hop district.

On February 7, 2017, we met directly with Mr. Bien to learn more about the incident.

The young man with a small figure sat on a bamboo pole in the middle of the yard, not hiding anything, recounting: He and Hien met in Quan village on a full moon night in June 2016. Since then, the two have been in regular contact with each other. "Last Tet, I also brought Hien to my house to play and many times wanted to confess my feelings to Hien but I haven't had the chance yet," Bien confided.

It was known that after Tet, Hien would go to the South to work, so Bien was very bored. On February 3, knowing that Hien would take a bus to the South to work, Bien asked Vi Van Phong, Lu Van Hai and Vi Van Bon from the same village to go to Chau Loc intersection to find Hien.

According to Bien, "If Hien said she loved me, I would take her home to be my wife. But when I came out, before I could say anything, the men jumped in and took her, making Hien panic.

Mr. Truong Van Bien added that right after the clip was posted online, officers from the Quy Hop District Police and Lien Hop Commune Police also called Bien to write a report. He now knows that his act of "wife-catching" was wrong. "If I don't ask Hien next time, I won't do it again," Mr. Bien confided.

It is known that Mr. Truong Van Bien dropped out of school in grade 9. For the past few years, he has been working as a miner in the district, while Ms. Vi Thi Hien finished grade 10. For the past two years, Ms. Hien has been working for a restaurant at Chau Loc Intersection.

Mr. Lo Thanh Dong, Chairman of Lien Hop Commune People's Committee, said: "The commune only found out about it right after the clip was posted online. The district police and the commune police also invited Mr. Bien to the commune People's Committee headquarters to work. Currently, the police are continuing to handle the case."

Regarding the issue of customs, Mr. Dong added that because the children did not understand the "bride stealing" custom of the Thai people, it led to the recent unfortunate incident.

Mr. Truong Van Bien, Bien's father, said that his family had recently come to talk with Hien's parents. "Both sides agreed to let the children get to know each other" - Mr. Bien added./.
