Recently, Nghe An Newspaper published an article titled: "Young woman cries hysterically as a group of young men 'kidnap her' in Quy Hop district (Nghe An)." Shortly afterward, the identity of the mastermind behind the "kidnapping" was confirmed: Truong Van Bien (born 1992), residing in Quen village, Lien Hop commune, Quy Hop district (Nghe An), and the young woman "kidnapped" in the video is Vi Thi Hien, residing in Quan village, Lien Hop commune, Quy Hop district.

On February 7, 2017, we met directly with Mr. Bien to learn more about the incident.

The young man, small in stature, sat on a makeshift bench in the courtyard and candidly recounted: He and Hien met in Quan village on a full moon night in June 2016. Since then, they have been in frequent contact. "This past Tet holiday, I brought Hien to my house and have wanted to confess my feelings to her many times, but haven't had the chance," Bien confided.

It was known that after the Lunar New Year, Hien would be going to the South to work, which made Bien very sad. On February 3rd, knowing that Hien would be taking a bus to the South for work, Bien asked Vi Van Phong, Lu Van Hai, and Vi Van Bon from the same village to go to Chau Loc intersection to find Hien.

According to Bien, "If Hien said she loved me, I would take her home to be my wife. But when she came out, before she could say anything, the guys jumped in and grabbed her, scaring Hien."

Mr. Truong Van Bien added that immediately after the clip was posted online, officers from the Quy Hop District Police and Lien Hop Commune Police summoned him to write a statement. He now understands that his act of "kidnapping his wife" was wrong. "If I hadn't asked Hien first, I wouldn't have done it again," Mr. Bien confessed.

It is known that Mr. Truong Van Bien dropped out of school in the 9th grade. For the past few years, he has been working as a mine worker in the district, while Ms. Vi Thi Hien completed the 10th grade. For the past two years, Ms. Hien has been working at a restaurant at Chau Loc Crossroads.

Mr. Lo Thanh Dong, Chairman of the Lien Hop Commune People's Committee, said: "The commune only found out about the clip after it was posted online. The district police and the commune police have also invited Mr. Bien to the commune's People's Committee office for questioning. Currently, the police are continuing to handle the case."

Regarding the issue of customs, Mr. Dong added that the unfortunate incident occurred because the children did not understand the "bride-stealing" custom of the Thai people.

Mr. Truong Van Bien, Bien's father, said that his family had recently spoken with Hien's parents. "Both sides have agreed to let the children get to know each other," Mr. Bien added.
