On December 27th, the Vinh Long Provincial Police announced that the investigating agency had initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Nguyen Thi Thu (born in 1973, residing in Vong The commune, Thoai Son district, An Giang province) for investigation into the crime of fraud and appropriation of property.
According to the investigation results, from November 2023 to July 2024, Thu provided false information to Mr. VVHP (born in 1968, residing in Vinh Long city) claiming to own a plot of land in Phu Quoc district (Kien Giang province) and that someone had offered to buy it for 18.5 billion VND.
Thu claimed she needed money to obtain a certificate of single status and to have her land use rights certificate updated so that her husband's name was no longer on it. Thu's intention was to borrow money from Mr. P. to process the land documents, promising to give him an additional 5 billion VND after completion.

Those involved should promptly report to the police and make statements to receive leniency from the law.
