Fraudulent sale of cemetery land, embezzling hundreds of millions of VND.
Taking advantage of people's need for cemetery land to build family tombs, Tran Van Quy fraudulently sold land, appropriating hundreds of millions of dong.
On November 23, the Nghi Xuan District Police in Ha Tinh Province announced that they have initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Tran Van Quy (born in 1973), residing in Xuan An town, on charges of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
According to authorities, Quy works as a construction worker, specializing in contracting the construction of cemetery mausoleums in Xuan An town.
Recognizing the need for cemetery land to build tombs for their families and clans, Quy conceived the idea of defrauding people and appropriating their property.
In June 2021, Quy undertook the construction of a cemetery for Mr. NTT's family (residing in Hamlet 3, Xuan An town) for 55 million VND. After completing the construction and handing over the cemetery to Mr. T., Quy subsequently sold the same cemetery to Ms. TTNA for 63 million VND.
Using the same method, Quy defrauded eight people out of more than 200 million VND by stealing four other cemetery plots in Xuan An town.
Police said that Quy had three previous convictions for "theft," "robbery," and "intentional infliction of injury," and had escaped from detention. The case is currently under further investigation.
