(Baonghean.vn) - The Yen Thanh District Police announced that they are temporarily detaining Nguyen Van Chinh (born in 1996), residing in Quynh Lam commune, Quynh Luu district, for the crime of defrauding people by selling lottery numbers and betting slips on social media.

Previously, through intelligence gathering, the Yen Thanh District Police discovered that several people had been defrauded through the buying and selling of lottery numbers. Specifically, the perpetrators used social media to advertise lottery numbers with high chances of winning; once the victims confirmed the purchase, they had to transfer money to the perpetrators. The criminal activities of these individuals caused public outrage and affected security and order in the area.

In response to this situation, the Yen Thanh District Police established a special task force to investigate. During the investigation, the task force determined that the suspect operated with many sophisticated methods, such as: using fake Facebook and Zalo social media accounts and bank accounts not registered in their name, as well as frequently changing their place of residence to avoid detection by authorities.

After a period of monitoring and employing a coordinated approach using various investigative techniques, the special task force discovered that Nguyen Van Chinh (born in 1996), residing in Quynh Lam commune, Quynh Luu district, showed signs of committing fraud and misappropriation of property.selling lottery tickets.After identifying that the suspect was renting a room in Thai Nguyen City, Thai Nguyen Province, to carry out criminal activities, on July 4th, the special task force proceeded to arrest Nguyen Van Chinh.

Authorities seized 50 million VND, one computer, one printer, four bank cards, and one mobile phone. Through investigation, the police initially determined that the suspect, Chinh, had committed eight fraud cases, appropriating property totaling 450 million VND.

Currently, the Yen Thanh District Police are holding the suspect in custody for further investigation.
