Scamming over 1 billion VND using the "trick" of selling game accounts.
Authorities said they have successfully dismantled a group specializing in scamming people by selling game accounts online, defrauding over 300 victims of approximately 1 billion VND.
In early May 2023, through intelligence gathering on the internet and in the local area, the Buon Ma Thuot City Police Department discovered a group of individuals in Ea Tu commune, Buon Ma Thuot city, exhibiting signs of fraudulent activity.misappropriation of property.

Upon discovering the incident, the Buon Ma Thuot City Police established a special task force and coordinated with the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Provincial Police to conduct an investigation and verification.
As a result, the police discovered the suspects, including Tran Dinh Lap (25 years old); Tran Duc Thinh (27 years old); Le Ba Kien (28 years old); Tran Dinh Cong (23 years old); and Nguyen Tien Quang (22 years old), all residing in Buon Ma Thuot city, who rented a room in Ea Tu commune, Buon Ma Thuot city, to carry out their fraudulent activities. This group was led by Lap.
To carry out the scheme, the group acquired a Facebook group with over 33,000 members, then copied images of other people's "Counter-Strike" game accounts and offered them for sale to members of this gaming group.
Once the buyer agreed and transferred the payment, the group locked the account and cut off all communication to embezzle the money. Using this method, Lap's group defrauded more than 300 people, embezzling approximately 1 billion VND.
The case is currently under further investigation by the authorities, and the individuals involved will be prosecuted according to regulations.
