Passenger traffic through Vinh airport increased by nearly 30%.
(Baonghean.vn) - In the first six months of 2016, the number of passengers passing through Vinh Airport reached nearly 1 million, an increase of 27.8% compared to the same period in 2015.

Currently, there are 7 domestic flight routes including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot, Da Lat, Cam Ranh and Pleiku (Gia Lai) with a normal frequency of 16 flights/day operated by 5 airlines.
On June 8, 2016, Vinh Airport launched a new international flight route to Bangkok (Thailand) with a frequency of 2 flights per month. Currently, the number of bookings for flights to Bangkok in June and July has reached 100%; it is expected that the frequency will increase to 4 flights per month in July.

According to Vinh Airport's leadership, in the near future, Vinh Airport will launch several more international routes from Vinh to Singapore, Japan, etc., so the airport needs to be expanded to meet passenger demand. Consequently, there will be some difficulties and obstacles in the operation of the terminal and the expansion of runway 2 as passenger demand in the region increases. Vinh Airport is proposing the construction of 3-4 additional aircraft parking positions; extending the current runway 600m to the north to accommodate Code E aircraft such as B747/777/787, A350 and equivalent models...
In Decision No. 347/QD-BGTVT dated January 29, 2015, the Ministry of Transport approved the revised plan for Vinh Airport to become an international airport for the period up to 2020 and with a vision beyond 2030. Specifically, it will be classified as a 4E airport according to international civil aviation standards (ICAO) and a Level I military airport. The planned capacity is 2.5 million – 3 million passengers per year by 2020; 5 million passengers per year by 2030; and 8 million passengers per year after 2030. In addition to the existing runway, a new runway 3000m long and 45m wide will be added. Vinh Airport will serve the socio-economic development, national defense and security of Nghe An province and the North Central provinces, and will be a backup airport for Noi Bai Airport. |
