The US has just issued a strong message demanding that Ukraine refrain from conducting airstrikes targeting Black Sea oil infrastructure. This move stems from an effort to protect the Caspian Pipeline, a strategic energy transport channel for European markets and international energy companies.
According to TASS news agency on July 25, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources close to the matter, reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump had issued a stern warning to Ukraine. Specifically, Washington demanded that there be absolutely no attacks on Black Sea oil and shipping infrastructure owned by third countries.
Washington views the Caspian Pipeline Corporation as a vital energy lifeline. This pipeline is responsible for transporting energy resources from Kazakhstan to European markets. In the current complex geopolitical context, it is seen as a direct and effective alternative to energy supplies from Russia.
Deep concern stems not only from political figures but also from global businesses. Mike Wirth, CEO of the American energy giant Chevron, has held direct discussions with senior White House representatives. The focus of these discussions has been the risks and property damage associated with attacks from Ukraine. Chevron currently holds a 15% stake in the Caspian Pipeline Corporation and prioritizes the security of its infrastructure.
Last July, the Caspian Pipeline Corporation's port area suffered a series of Ukrainian drone strikes targeting oil tankers. This serious incident immediately sparked strong diplomatic reactions in the region.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry has issued a statement indicating that it does not rule out the possibility of Astana formally requesting compensation for the material damages incurred. This decision is entirely justified, given the Central Asian nation's heavy reliance on the stability of its Black Sea oil infrastructure. Statistics show that approximately 80% of the republic's total oil production is exported internationally via the Caspian Sea pipeline.
