The reason Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang accepted the death penalty.
Explaining her reasons for withdrawing her appeal and accepting the death penalty, "stepmother" Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang stated that she did not want public opinion to affect the lives of her relatives.

In her petition, Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang stated: "Realizing that I am feeling pressured and exhausted during the appellate trial, and not wanting public opinion to affect the lives of my relatives, I voluntarily write this petition to withdraw my appeal. I respectfully request that the High People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City consider and approve this request."
According to the law, after the Ho Chi Minh City High Court receives Trang's request to withdraw her appeal, the court will suspend the appellate proceedings against her.

However, in the upcoming trial on April 28th, Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang will still be summoned to court to assist with the proceedings.
Previously, in November 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court sentenced Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang to death for "murder" and 3 years in prison for "torturing others," with a combined sentence of death.
Defendant Nguyen Kim Trung Thai was sentenced to 3 years in prison for "torturing others" and 5 years in prison for "concealing a crime," for a combined sentence of 8 years.
Following the initial trial, the defendant Trang appealed for a reduced sentence. The victim's representative, lawyer Nguyen Anh Thom, also appealed, requesting a change in the charge against the defendant from "Torturing another person" to "Murder".
According to the first-instance judgment, during their time living together in the apartment, Nguyen Kim Trung Thai entrusted his daughter, NTVA (8 years old), to Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang's care.
Later, Trang ordered a rattan cane to discipline Thai's stepchild. When the cane broke, Trang switched to beating the child with a 90cm long wooden stick and forced VA to kneel in the dog kennel.
At the height of the incident, Trang used a dangerous weapon to strike VA in vital areas for nearly four hours, causing the child's death.
Thai, who was directly raising and caring for VA, witnessed Trang beating and abusing her for days and hours but remained indifferent, doing nothing to stop it or protect her child.
On December 22, 2021, after learning that Trang had beaten VA to death, Thai logged into the camera management application and deleted all data from the four cameras in the apartment in order to conceal Trang's crime.
