The notorious criminal record of Kha Banh

On the afternoon of April 2nd, at the government's regular press conference, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, announced that the Bac Ninh Police had initiated legal proceedings and detained Ngo Ba Kha (aka Kha Banh) on charges of...GambleandOrganized gambling.

According to the Bac Ninh Police, at the investigative agency, Kha cried and admitted his wrongdoing, urging "his gang members not to do wrong things."

In connection with the case, authorities are currently detaining Nguyen Van Quang (32 years old), Nguyen Huu Hoi (20 years old, both residing in Tu Son town), Ngo Luong An (34 years old), and Trinh Huu Quy (27 years old, both residing in Tien Du district) to clarify their involvement in gambling and organizing gambling activities.

According to Minister and Head of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, the videos posted on social media by Kha have endangered the younger generation. "I am very pleased that the Bac Ninh Police have solved the case related to Kha," Mr. Dung said, affirming that Kha's actions are unacceptable.

According to Ngo Duc Binh, the head of the Tam Son commune police, Kha is a local troublemaker who does not strictly abide by the law. The suspect often hangs out with his friends from other places and comes back to the locality to cause disorder.

At the age of 17, Kha was sent to a reformatory for disturbing public order. After two years of rehabilitation, Kha returned home and worked independently. At the age of 20, he married a woman from the same village. Four years later, he divorced and continued his nomadic life. In 2017, Kha was sentenced to 5 months in prison by the People's Court of Tu Son town for the crime of...Intentional infliction of injury.

"On the evening of April 1st, when the police executed the arrest warrant and searched the house, there were two girls who claimed to be Kha's wives, but we have not received any information about the marriage registration," Mr. Binh said.

According to Mr. Binh, Kha only gained popularity on social media and was "attractive" to young people in other places, while in the local area, everyone was indifferent because they understood him to be a "gangster with a criminal record who often causes trouble."

Mr. Binh felt saddened that many students usually came to Kha's house to take photos and ask for autographs. During the recent Tet holiday, a group of students even cycled from Thuan Thanh district to ask for photos amidst cheers.

"Seeing this situation, local authorities have advised schools in the area to actively promote awareness among students," he said.

Kha started making videos with vulgar and gangster-related content to post on YouTube in 2017, and currently has nearly 2 million followers. Initially, Kha was paid $7,000-$8,000 per month due to the high number of views, and in some months, it reached nearly $20,000.

On April 1st, Kha and several others were detained by the Bac Ninh Provincial Police. During a search of Kha's house, police seized numerous weapons along with "some documents related to illegal lending and gambling activities." Kha confessed to using drugs.
