Not all mothers know the best and safest way to wash and clean their child's nose.

A runny nose and cough are common symptoms of illness in almost all children, especially in humid weather. To prevent the illness from worsening, nasal rinsing should be done as soon as the child shows signs of a runny nose, nasal congestion, cough, wheezing, etc.

According to experts, the following steps should be taken when cleaning a child's nose:

- Parents should use saline solution drops to gradually thin the nasal mucus, moisten the nostrils, and then use a nasal aspirator.

- You can use a saline nasal spray, but don't spray too forcefully. Avoid using a syringe to rinse the nose as this can put excessive pressure on the nasal mucosa. Afterwards, instruct the child on how to blow their nose by blocking one nostril and gently spraying the other.

- If the nasal mucus is too thick and won't drain out with water, you can use a nasal aspirator to suction it out. However, you shouldn't overuse nasal aspirators because this method can create pressure that damages the nasal mucosa.

- When using tissue paper, place it in front of your nostrils to prevent dirty fluids from splashing around, avoiding the spread of bacteria and diseases. Frequent nose wiping can also cause skin irritation and redness, so use soft tissue paper to avoid pain and perform the action gently.
