Man United have signed defender Patrick Dorgu for €30 million.
Manchester United have officially completed the signing of defender Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, on a five-and-a-half-year contract until summer 2030.
To acquire this 20-year-old talent, the "Red Devils" spent approximately 30 million euros, plus 7.5 million euros in bonuses. This is the most expensive transfer in Lecce's history, surpassing the previous record of 20 million euros when Morten Hjulmand was sold in the summer of 2023. Notably, Lecce only spent around 500,000 euros to buy Dorgu in 2022.
Dorgu expressed his excitement at joining Old Trafford: "I am incredibly proud to be called a Manchester United player. This is a special day for my family. I am very much looking forward to working with manager Ruben Amorim. His vision for the team and the future of the club is truly fascinating." Manchester United's technical director Jason Wilcox also praised Dorgu, calling him a "truly remarkable talent" and believing that his defensive and attacking qualities, adaptability, and work ethic will be a key element in Amorim's squad.
Dorgu is a notable signing for Manchester United in the 2025 winter transfer window and a crucial addition to manager Ruben Amorim's squad. The versatile player will join the first team and could make his debut against Crystal Palace tonight. Before moving to Manchester United, Dorgu bid farewell to Lecce in their match against Parma.
Although his preferred position is left-back, Dorgu can play in multiple positions such as right-back, left winger, and right midfielder. In Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation, Dorgu can be used as a wing-back to replace players like Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, who are frequently injured. Dorgu has impressed at Lecce with 43 appearances since joining the club in 2022, scoring 3 Serie A goals this season despite playing as a defender. The 20-year-old star also has 4 caps for the Danish national team.
