Man United signed defender Patrick Dorgu for 30 million euros
Man United officially completed the signing of defender Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, with a five-and-a-half-year contract until the summer of 2030.
To own this 20-year-old talent, the "Red Devils" spent about 30 million euros, plus 7.5 million euros in bonuses. This is the most expensive transfer deal in Lecce's history, surpassing the old record of 20 million euros when selling Morten Hjulmand in the summer of 2023. Notably, Lecce only spent about 500,000 euros to buy Dorgu in 2022.
Dorgu expressed his excitement at joining Old Trafford: "I am extremely proud to be called a Manchester United player. This is a special day for my family. I am looking forward to working with manager Ruben Amorim. His vision for the team and the future of the club is truly exciting." MU technical director Jason Wilcox also praised Dorgu, calling him a "truly remarkable talent" and believes his defensive and attacking qualities, adaptability and work ethic will be important factors in Amorim's squad.
Dorgu is a notable signing of MU in the winter transfer window of 2025 and is also an important addition to the squad of coach Ruben Amorim. This versatile player will join the first team and can debut against Crystal Palace tonight. Before moving to Manchester United, Dorgu said goodbye to Lecce in the match against Parma.
Although primarily a left-back, Dorgu can play in a number of positions including right-back, left and right midfielder. In Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation, Dorgu can be used as a full-back to replace the likes of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, who are often injured. Dorgu has impressed at Lecce, making 43 appearances since joining the club in 2022, scoring three goals in Serie A this season despite playing as a defender. The 20-year-old has also been capped four times by the Danish national team.
