Coach Mourinho's team missed the opportunity to close in on the top 4 when they could only get a 0-0 draw with Hull on the evening of February 1.

This is the fourth time Man Utd have faced Hull this season, including the two semi-final matches that took place in the League Cup. In the first leg of the semi-final at Old Trafford, Man Utd won 2-0 but could not repeat the result in the Premier League match.

Man Utd easily dominated the game at home but the Red Devils were thwarted by a brilliant day from goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic. The Hull keeper denied Ibrahimovic a long-range effort and beat Paul Pogba in a one-on-one situation in the first half.

The second half continued to be a time for Jakupovic to shine when he made the most spectacular save from Juan Mata's close-range shot. In addition, Jakupovic continued to frustrate Pogba's curling shot.

Hull almost made Man Utd regret at the end of the match but Lazar Markovic's shot hit the woodwork while Abel Hernandez could not beat De Gea.

Man Utd are currently sixth with 42 points, four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool. The draw with Hull was disappointing as Man Utd could not close the gap in the top-four round, drawing or losing all the time.

In contrast to Man Utd, Hull can be satisfied with a point at Old Trafford. This team escaped the bottom position and climbed to 19th with 17 points. The team that replaced Hull in the last position is Sunderland of former Man Utd manager David Moyes.

Hull have conceded 47 goals in the Premier League this season, the second worst record behind Swansea (52). However, they surprisingly kept their second clean sheet in 23 games when they were away at Old Trafford, a feat that was largely attributed to hero Jakupovic, who is only a reserve goalkeeper at Hull.

Man Utd are showing signs of decline after their winning streak was stopped. The Old Trafford team maintained their unbeaten record in the Premier League to 14 games but have drawn all three of their most recent matches. Among the top 6 teams, Man Utd have drawn 9 matches and this is the main reason why they are struggling at the bottom.

Mourinho's team missed a series of opportunities to close the gap with the top 4 and the match against Hull can be considered the peak of disappointment. In a round where Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham all drew and Arsenal lost, sharing points with a red light team like Hull is no different than shooting yourself in the foot.

Man Utd can only blame the squandering of chances. Ibrahimovic, Pogba and Mata all had clear chances to score but missed. While Marcus Rashford played the full 90 minutes for Man Utd for the first time since November, the young talent lost possession 21 times, more than any other player on the pitch. Rooney was introduced in the second half but what he left was not enough to make a difference.
