Manchester United's squad value is the highest in English football and the second highest in Europe ($651.9 million). In the summer of 2016 alone, the Old Trafford club set a world transfer record of $130 million to bring midfielder Paul Pogba back from Juventus.
Of the top seven positions on UEFA's list, the Premier League has five clubs, with Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, and Liverpool all possessing more expensive squads than Barcelona – who are only ranked eighth.
But that also means that at least one of the clubs in these top 7 most expensive squads will miss out on the Champions League next season, as the Premier League can only have a maximum of four representatives.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) also boasts a squad with a higher total transfer value than Barca.
Barca possesses a squad with only the eighth highest total transfer fees, largely thanks to a host of stars who came through the club's own youth academy, most notably Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi. This is similar to the case of Manchester United's successful squad in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with the golden generation of 1992, also developed by the club itself.
Sunderland, a club facing relegation this season, surprisingly appeared in the Top 20, ranking 19th.
Serie A also has five clubs in the Top 20, with Juventus in the top position (10th).
The Bundesliga has three representatives in the Top 20, with Bayern Munich in ninth place.
