Impersonating police, defrauding people of jobs, appropriating nearly 800 million VND

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 16, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try Nguyen Xuan Luong (born in 1985), residing in Dien Thai commune, Dien Chau district, for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Nguyen Xuan Luong claimed to be an officer working at Department C45 - Ministry of Public Security to gain prestige to commit fraud and property appropriation. To increase his prestige, Luong even claimed to be the son-in-law of a Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

With this trick, Luong easily tricked victims into giving money to get jobs and positions. Luong's victims were families whose children had finished university or college but had not yet found jobs. The investigation agency determined that from 2013 to 2016, Nguyen Xuan Luong had defrauded and appropriated 779.4 million VND from 7 victims.

On August 13, 2016, when Luong was receiving money from a resident of Dien Chau district to “run” into the police force, he was caught red-handed by Dien Chau district police. Before that, Luong also received money from a teacher and his wife to “run” for that teacher to become the Vice Principal of the school.

As for victims who need to apply for a job, depending on the job position, the salary is from 80-150 million VND/job.

At the trial, Nguyen Xuan Luong admitted his crime and hoped to receive leniency from the law. After Luong was arrested, his family was able to recover some of the damage that Luong caused to the victims.

Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Xuan Luong to 8 years in prison for "Fraudulent appropriation of property", forcing the defendant to compensate the victims for the entire amount of money he had appropriated.
