(Baonghean.vn) - When the presiding judge asked the defendant why he killed Mr. Phuc, Sinh said that he had tried to be patient, but they wouldn't let him go and even turned around with a sword threatening to kill him, so he acted, but he didn't intentionally kill him. This was the explanation of Vi Van Sinh (born in 1987), residing in Chau Nga commune, Quy Chau district.

Vi Van Sinh was brought to trial for murder by the Nghe An Provincial People's Court. Sinh was thinner and paler than when he was arrested. During questioning, Sinh honestly confessed to his actions and showed remorse. He was illiterate and the third child in a family of four siblings.

Due to difficult family circumstances, Sinh did not have the opportunity to receive an education like his peers. Growing up, Sinh had to work odd jobs, struggling to earn money to support his elderly parents. Preoccupied with life's struggles, while his friends had already started families, Sinh eagerly sought a wife to build his own home.

Through an arranged marriage by a cousin, Sinh met Ha Thi Xuan (residing in Yen Lac town, Quy Chau district), who had been married before. Knowing that Xuan was the ex-wife of Vi Van Dong (residing in Chau Hoi commune, Quy Chau district) and that Dong had repeatedly hinted that she was his former lover, Sinh ignored Dong's words due to Xuan's personality and charm.

Before the murder, Sinh rode his motorbike to Ms. Xuan's house. While crossing the Khe Bon bridge (in Tan Lac town), he saw Dong and Phuc waiting. Seeing Sinh, they invited him to drink. During the drinking session, Phuc asked Sinh, "Dong's wife left him, why did you marry her?" Hearing this, Sinh denied having a relationship with Dong's ex-wife and asked to leave. Thinking that was the end of it, Sinh continued to ride his motorbike to Ms. Xuan's house, but after a while, the murder occurred.

It was around 11:45 PM on March 3, 2016, when Vi Van Sinh was sitting at Ms. Ha Thi Xuan's house and Lu Van Phuc and Vi Van Dong appeared. Phuc went straight into Ms. Xuan's house while Dong sat on his motorbike in the yard. Seeing Sinh, Phuc approached him and loudly asked, "Are you going to take Xuan? I'll take her home for you." Seeing his friend's loud voice, Sinh didn't answer, said goodbye to the homeowner, and left.

Seeing Sinh walking and tapping on his phone, Phuc thought Sinh was calling people to beat him up, so he threatened him. “If you call people, you won’t be able to leave this village. If you leave my house, I’ll chop you to death.” Hearing the loud voices inside, Dong, who was outside in his car, grabbed a sword and approached Xuan’s house, gesturing with his head held high. “Sinh, do you believe I’ll chop you?” Hearing Dong and Phuc’s words, Sinh immediately went back inside. After being restrained by the homeowner, Dong and Phuc got into their car and drove away. As they passed Sinh’s parked car, Dong used his sword to slash at the front of Sinh’s vehicle.

After waiting for the other two to leave, Sinh asked to leave. Before he could turn his motorbike around, Dong and Phuc returned, Dong still holding the sword. Seeing that they were about to cause trouble again, Sinh abandoned his motorbike and ran into Ms. Xuan's kitchen to grab two pieces of firewood. Seeing Phuc bending down to retrieve something from under the motorbike, Sinh ran to Phuc and struck him hard on the head with the stick.

Seeing Phuc being beaten, Dong grabbed a sword and chased after Sinh to attack him, but was stopped by Xuan's family. Afterwards, Dong took Phuc to the hospital for emergency treatment, while Sinh stayed overnight at Xuan's house until the next morning. Phuc died on March 5, 2016. The forensic report concluded that the cause of death of Lu Van Phuc was a fractured skull and multiple traumatic brain hemorrhage.

As a witness to the event, a person involved, Ms. Xuan timidly chose a chair in the corner of the room. Her eyes were always fixed on the dock where the defendant was sitting, as if to offer sympathy. “My ex-husband and I separated a long time ago, so who I want to get to know is my private matter.”

I never expected my ex-husband to instigate his friends to interfere. I bear some responsibility for the situation he's in today. He was unmarried and had a whole future ahead of him. Yet now, because of a moment of anger, he's being accused of murder."

After considering the details of the case, the court sentenced Vi Van Sinh to 12 years in prison. The defendant was also ordered to pay 77 million VND in compensation.
